It makes sense. They chastised Ron Paul and Murray Rothbard (forced him out from Cato's board of directors) for wanting to end the Fed so why not aid the one candidate who has been open about not wanting to audit the Fed? Hell, Cato added Bernanke as a key note speaker at one of their economic conferences a few years ago while conveniently leaving out Paul.
