More than anyone else, Kerry is going to need our help getting re-elected.

Maybe we could organize a "Santa Claus" themed money bomb for him during the holiday season to begin filling his war chest? Since of course he has a history with portraying Santa Claus.

Anyone here willing and able to move the gears on something like that?

"Congressman Claus..."

Might be cute... Would definitely be effective.

The MSM already hypes up the image of a one-can-short-of-a-six-pack, reindeer ranching, Santa Claus impersonating buffoon. I don't think we should help it along any, personally.

That said, I'm fully behind supporting an early war-chest building process.

Well let's do something for him. I don't mean it has to be Santa Claus. That's just a cute idea.

Kerry needs to help himself by constituent outreach over the next two years. If his voting record is tight, I am sure the support will be there for reelection.

he will get a primary from the establishment/Cassis and needs the funds to defend himself

He needs good name recognition and funds to ward off any primary. Spending extra time with constituent outreach will help with the first. He will also be able to bring his message directly to the voters in his district that way. Money will come easily if he votes well. The establishment said they were going to primary Amash too.

This district is much different than Amash's though. They tailored made this district specifically for McCotter and it's probably the strongest Republican district in Michigan and definitely the most wealthy. A primary isn't inevitable, but Bentivolio's path is going to be much different than Amash's.

If Kerry does a good job in providing representation to his district he will do well in both the primary and general. I am talking about your bread and butter, access to your representative type of thing. Besides being a liberty candidate, he needs to also make sure he speaks and fundraises at the local GOP organization events. That sort of goodwill gesture will go a long way. If he does that, doesn't have any major blowout gaffes, and votes like his platform he will have all the money he needs. The establishment wants a viable candidate more than anything. They only want to win.

Amash will beat back any primary attempt - he is still popular among the republicans/tea partiers in his district. While we still should help Amash, Kerry really needs the help...

It's important to remember that primaries from the center are much more rare (and difficult) than primaries from the right. Primary voters tend to be hardcore partisans, so "Vote for me, he's too conservative" doesn't necessarily play well.

That said, a moderate Democrat or a respected moderate Republican would have a shot of taking Kerry on and giving him a very challenging race. Even given the district's lean.

It is also not inconceivable, though unlikely based on public statements, that McCotter could seek re-election to the district in a couple years or a couple terms. It was drawn for him, after all.

Ultimately, Kerry needs a war chest, he needs a ground game, he needs an active organization... starting right now.

Justin has a fairly spartan campaign organization (I think his brother ran his campaign) but he has enough name recognition now with two terms under his belt to where it will be harder and harder for anyone to challenge him in the future.

Most folks in Michigan need to focus on Kerry at the moment.
