There will more than likely be a recount.

Edit: MLive.com is reporting that Bentivolio won by only 156 votes. I'm not sure where they are getting their numbers from.

Alright, I'm not sure what's going on, because the reports directly from the two counties involved show that Curson won.

Looks like the results above in the second post showing Curson winning are the final tallies of the unofficial results. The difference is 2.3% so it doesn't seem like there will be a recount.

If results hold, Curson will serve from now til end of January when Kerry will start serving a two year term.

Yeah, makes more sense. No big deal anyway. It might help Curson in a future election, but he seems like a weak candidate.

who is Curson and why would voters split their votes like that ??

I'm worried about Kerry, holding this seat is going to be difficult.

Kerry will also lose priority on committee's and be lumped in with other freshman

He needs to start raising money and keeping the district on side otherwise there will be problems

Having a special election on the general election ballot is confusing. It's obvious not many people knew they had the opportunity to vote twice for Congressman. Also, the demographics between the special and general are different. The special election was more favorable to Dems than the general election.

Yeah, mostly different demographics. Plus a sizeable amount of people like to split votes in this type of occasion. "Oy, I'm not voting twice for this guy!".

Libertarian pulled in 11,611 votes. Those votes would have put Kerry over the top.

That's alright, who cares about the two month term finishing Cotters seat. That was in the old district anyways, which obviously came out in droves for the Dem ticket this election. My hope with Kerry is that he solidifies his name with constiuents and begins to build a local coalition of liberty minded activists that begin to take local seats with his help from his office, that can take over this seat when Kerry is done serving in a few terms.

I'd like to think where ever we gain power like this, we hold it and expand upon it. That is how we can grow further.

great observation! I will keep this in mind here in socal.

Yeah, it's too bad that Kerry won't get seniority right out of the gate but at least he'll have time to pick his staff w/o rushing it. The old parts of the district did come out in droves for Obama and that's why this nobody won by default. The LP guys name has been on the ballot here against Thad ever since he became a rep. Unfortunately, when it became clear that Kerry was gonna be the nominee the LP didn't put out an SOS to their people to not vote for their candidate over Kerry. It was such a screwy situation that we were in a fix either way.

I don't understand the people who voted for the LP. The guy has no website...how do they even know where he stands on the issues? I'm sure some know the guy personally but to get 11k votes, that's a lot of people not taking the time to do their homework and voting party over principles.

Yeah, in this day an age there's no excuse to not have a website, even for the lowliest positions. I set up a wordpress website when I was campaigning for my precinct delegate position. If I can't find anything about you in 5 minutes of google searching, you don't deserve my vote.
