What are your thoughts on the war on terrorism?

Keeping Americans safe is paramount. We cannot forget, however, that our commitment to personal liberty is what makes our nation great. The terrorists point to our liberties like freedom of speech and religion, due process under the law, and equal rights for women as their reason for hating us. If we give up our liberties, then the terrorists win.

I've taken this article and started a "Getting to know Kerry" series on my Facebook. Each day I take a "question / answer" and post it. I figure feeding the best pieces in tidbit format will gain the best quick exposure. Today's tidbit

What will determine your vote on legislation? Your knowledge of the issue, the voters in your district or your party leader?

I will vote to do what is right for the people. For each bill, I will ask: 1. Is the bill constitutional?; 2. Can we afford it?; and 3. Is it is in best interests of the people to pass the bill? If the answer to any of these questions is “No,” then I will vote against the bill.

The oath of office says you will defend and protect the U.S. Constitution. Do you consider the Constitution relevant today? Or is the Constitution an 18th century document that's no longer relevant in the 21st century?

The Constitution is the supreme law of the land. The Constitution provides for a system of split sovereignty where the federal government is permitted to regulate some areas of public life, the state governments regulate other areas, and many liberties that the people enjoy are free from regulation..."
