GPS Data Leak from Online Photo Gives Away John McAfee’s Position in Guatemala

Rocco Castoro, editor-in-chief of Vice, recently spent some time hanging out with John McAfee. Others were in attendance, too, and someone in the group uploaded a picture of the two men from an iPhone, apparently without bothering to strip out the geolocation details from the pic’s EXIF data. The photo pegged McAfee’s position at an address in Rio Dulce, Guatemala, near the border with Belize.

For weeks, McAfee has been laying low and trying to avoid capture by authorities in Belize. He’s wanted for questioning in the murder case of his neighbor, Gregory Faull.

I place this here in "Individual Rights & Liberties" forum not because of John, but because of the implications of META DATA.

By photographing someone, I have come to the conclusion that you can capture their soul, as long as the picture is around. Does it trap the person on the picture? No, not at all. It actually creates a controlled residual haunting of that time and place with an emotion or story the person was thinking about at that time.

Not at all surprising. McAfee was overly-confident to the point of stupidity/insanity.
