Lexington Mayor Jim Gray has raised $1.75 million in his bid to oust incumbent U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, according to a written release from Gray’s campaign Wednesday.
The two-term Democratic mayor and former CEO of Gray Construction loaned his campaign $1 million and raised $750,000 from donors, his campaign said.
The donations are for the first quarter of the year — January through March 31. Gray did not announce he was seeking the Democratic nomination until Jan. 26. Cathy Lindsey, a spokeswoman for Gray’s campaign, said the campaign was able to raise the $1.75 million in just two months. Gray has spent little; the campaign says it has $1.5 million in cash on hand.
