Article claims polling is 88% in favor of medical legalization yet Jebbie says no, it will hurt the family friendly aura of Florida.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush spoke out against legalizing marijuana in the state, saying the action would hurt the state’s family-friendly reputation.

Activists are trying to put an initiative legalizing medicinal use of marijuana on Florida’s ballot in November, but Mr. Bush said Thursday approving it would be a mistake.

“Florida leaders and citizens have worked for years to make the Sunshine State a world-class location to start or run a business, a family-friendly destination for tourism and a desirable place to raise a family or retire,” Mr. Bush said.

"So far, 20 states and the District of Columbia have varying legislation permitting the use of medical marijuana."

Well, I guess that's 20 states that won't go to Bush in '16. I mean having just insulted them by saying that they are family UN-friendly and all.

Jeb Bush thinks that the mothers and fathers of those 20 states hate their children and that's why they legalized medical marijuana.

What a bonehead.

Actually, I doubt that he thinks any such thing.

What he thinks is that it's great to be one of the boss elites who get to do things like have people locked up in cages for no good reason.

But of course, since he wants to go on being one of those boss elites, he can't actually just come right out and say that ...

a desirable place to raise a family or retire,” Mr. Bush said.

Meanwhile outside of Jeb Bushes bubble:

82 Percent of Floridians Support Medical Marijuana, 48 Percent For Recreational Use

The highest percentage of people who admitted to trying the drug were 50 to 64-year-olds.

62% of that age group admitted to smoking pot, more than any other group.

I don't know about you all but in the article the words "run a business" are double red underlined due to adwords. Naaa Jeb doesn't want any start up businesses in Florida. Don't mess up the business environment by stopping prohibition against businesses.

Ah, yet again the fantasy that the drug war actually stops people from doing drugs. As we all know, once you legalize weed every single person is going to become a pothead and there will be Phish concerts all over the fucking place and society will be ruined.

We can only hope

It won't hurt him in the primary. Old Republicans are overwhelmingly for the drug war and they are the one who vote in primaries in Florida.

I think people will get out and vote this time a lot of people in fla want legal pot.

You really think potheads are going to vote in greater numbers than retired people? If so you are in for a lesson in politics.

Why do you assume that everybody who thinks cannabis should be legal uses it on a regular basis?

There are plenty of people who think it should be legal who have:

1) Never used it
2) Used to use it and never plan to again
3) Use it on occasion

Because I'm fine with it being legal, but would not put forth any effort to make it so. I think the majority of those who are ok with it wouldn't go out of their way to help make it legal. Old retired folks in Florida however have nothing better to do, so are reliable voters and old people still cling to reefer madness.

I think you'll be disappointed here.

Maybe, but if the polling is any indicator (~80%+ in favor), even the blue hairs can't derail that momentum. If it was 55-60% they could but 80-88%+? Unlikely unless a very large percentage of the poll participants don't turn out for a mid term election. Also, the reefer madness blue hairs are dying off and the hippies of the 60's and 70's are starting to replace them in the 60yo+ bracket. It'll be an interesting contest either way.
