‘It’s a Mess’: Rand Paul’s Son Erroneously Enrolled in Medicaid

National Review said:
His healthcare coverage under the Affordable Care Act was supposed to begin January 1, but Rand Paul on Sunday said he remains unsure if he and his family are covered. At least one member of the Paul family is, though, albeit erroneously. The Kentucky senator held up the Medicaid card his son received through the Kentucky exchange.

“We didn’t try to get him Medicaid, I’m trying to pay for his insurance,” Paul said, “but they automatically enrolled him in Medicaid. For a month they wouldn’t talk to him because they said they weren’t sure he existed. He had to go down to the welfare office, prove his existence, then next thing we know, we get a Medicaid card.” Extrapolating from his son’s experience, the senator argued that in Kentucky – whose state-run exchange, set up with the support of Democratic governor Steve Beshear, has been heralded as a success — many are being automatically, and erroneously, enrolled in Medicaid.

Paul went on to say that, despite repeated attempts, he has been unable to amend his online profile or confirm that his family is covered and he remains uncertain whether he is enrolled in the Kentucky exchange, the District of Columbia’s exchange, or both. “It’s a mess,” he concluded.

Another success story of Obamacare. The problem with Obamacare is that we were told that it had to be implemented because millions of people were freeloading off the insured people and therefore causing insurance premiums to increase. But with Obamacare, millions of people are getting free care or subsidizes causing the same increase in insurance premiums.

So essentially, the problem still exists and just disguised to absorb the freeloaders. The old healthcare system was crap but in that system, we had a choice in the matter and debt collectors hounded the freeloaders till they paid everything they can pay for the healthcare coverage they got.

How many people will jump through hoops and battle the system just to switch to paying for healthcare, instead of just staying with Medicaid? Doesn't sound like an error. Just a way to hook more Americans on government handouts. Dependent and helpless citizens are compliant citizens.

They will once they realize Medicaid does not afford very good coverage in the grand scheme of things. It is still better than nothing, of course, and is free... but it is not comparable to most commercial plans.

They can realize that all they want, but a good chunk of people on medicaid, if not the vast majority of them, can't afford an insurance plan. Especially if they're jobless, self-employed, or part-time.

Erm we were talking specifically about the people who were erroneously enrolled, I thought. Yep that's the title of the thread.

extortion is what it is, anyone that voted for it should be arrested under mafia style extortion laws. I do not buy any of the gop posturing on this. either arrest or repeal and arrest these mafia style criminals, anything less is allowing it.

The us gov is no longer viable as my gov because it is criminal and no longer valid under our own constitution.

and this is my second reason for not signing up for obamacare. even if i wanted to, the screw ups are enormous on the systems part. how do i go into an agreement and not be alarmed of its inability to be safe and reliable for me. i wouldnt buy a new car if all the dealers were this sloppy.
