Secretary of State link to the certification list http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/2012-elections/nov-general/pdf/list-write-in-candidates.pdf

This isn't even the effort I was working on, it is the one with Napalitano as VP, which was hardly on my radar because we knew of only one form filled out that way. However, it looks from this post like they got 55 filed!!

Our own may also end up with 55 filed forms, but it will be touch and go whether it does or not, so this is fantastic!!

On Oct 26 the secretary of state will certify write in candidates on her web page, and we can check it out, officially!!

Props to those who worked on any of the three efforts to get Ron's votes counted in Ca!!

I hope for the sake of those in CA, that you are able to get a sizable turnout for this write in campaign. If not, and the number is less than 1% you are going to have a hard time moving forward convincing other groups that you are a voting bloc that they should be paying attention to.

Do the activists in CA have any concrete plans for mobilization of this write in campaign? Is canvassing being done? What about direct mail or phone banking? Are all the polling locations in the state going to be staffed with volunteers explaining to voters how to write in Ron Paul on their ballot?

Why? With two weeks to go before we knew we could have votes for him counted and many settling for fall backs? This is only the die hard group that won't stay home and will go and throw a protest vote. MOst of his supporters won't even know about it. People can interpret it as they like.

We just got the electors in, we can have fun raising profile on our own - go rain on someone else's parade.

I'll likely do some facebook ads in the college towns, to college age, where Ron had rallies including voter registration pushes though.

Not saying it is a bad idea, if you have the votes. Otherwise, you are showing your cards. If the purpose of it wasn't to garner as much support for Paul as possible through a coordinated effort then what was the purpose? Seems like a lot and time and effort was put into this, so wouldn't you want to have a positive result from the effort? Seems to me it would be silly to spend the time doing this only to have a few thousand people write his name in.

If you have an existing mailing list and activist network in CA, then it should be relatively simply to organize people to carry out the work that needs to be done. Just get on the phone, make the contacts, and get the people out on the street doing the work that needs to be done.

the purpose is to have votes we are going to cast anyhow counted. We'll see how many want to spread the word and work from there, but why do you care?

People want their own votes counted even if they don't think spending days canvassing has more of a real return in this scenario. If we had months we could create buzz at colleges but as it is I suspect we are just going to take low hanging fruit, maybe with some signs and facebook ads. We'll see how much immediate interest we generate with this.

Seems sort of pointless then, but it's your call. Too bad, because you have an opportunity to demonstrate that you have a sizable voting bloc there in CA. All it takes is some work and you can do this.

Given how little time there is to the election, most new Paul supporters having drifted since he didn't run third party, lack of advertising budget, many activists with other election duties as members of GOP or LP, it seems to me like you are oddly interested in this.

So we just write Ron Paul for President on the write in area and it will be counted?

I'm in SC, so I cannot help on the ground. If you have a list of contacts sorted by CD and/or precinct I'd be happy to lend a hand getting your polls staffed. Does your group have any budget for printing up fliers with instructions on how to do a write in? You'll need to know the average turnout per precinct to get an idea of how many you should have printed. I would suggest not printing until you know you have someone to staff that polling place of course.

Yes! You write in 'President' in the office and 'Ron Paul' as candidate, and that should do it, but the official way will be up on the SOS webpage after 10/26, when he is formally certified. But I have heard from two different sources that Ron is expected to be certified at this point. I understand that there will be 8 write in candidates.

I don't think we are planning to do anything like that, but we will let you know if we do. We are more likely to just put up signs that he is a write in candidate, and facebook ads in college areas.

There are instructions on how to do a write in right on the ballot booklet, however. The booklet further says the poll workers will have lists of candidates.

Get with your contacts and consider it - otherwise you are faced with a situation of having a type of ballot access, but few people knowing it exists. 13 million people will vote in your state, the more that you can get to do the write in, the more influence your group can have in upcoming elections.

Our group is fractured, however, as we will not be in future elections, since some have other commitments given Ron wasn't an available option until now. I doubt we will be able to maximize this as we would in a fresh election. within that, I'd like him to have more votes than fewer.

Do you have the lists?

I have contacts, I don't call them 'lists'. The only 'lists' I have are of people I canvassed in the primary.

Various contacts have various lists, I guess we could do something with a communication tree.

But mainly I just want to let people know they can write Ron in. I will start notifying meetups in CA.

Well then at the very least you can work your own precinct on election day. Fliers for one polling location shouldn't cost you too much, probably 50 bucks or so if you do half or quarter sheets and have them cut for you. If you can print them at home, then it's even cheaper.
