Is this a waste of time?

It has been suggested to me by an RP campaign coordinator that the time, money and effort I plan on engaging in this weekend to turn my truck into a gigantic Ron Paul advertisement would be better spent canvassing door to door. I respectfully disagree, but would be happy to hear comments or criticisms on this point of view.

Thus far, I have already put some self designed banners on my truck, the process of which I documented on a YouTube video that surprisingly peaked at 7th top rated news/politics video of the day when released. Though now it sits at 50th rank for the week in the same category.

I've been planning for, and have gathered some friends to assist in a rather large scale project this weekend to further transform my daily commute vehicle into an even more extravagant display that would be nearly impossible to ignore.

Furthermore, I plan on creating another video in an attempt to call other pickup truck owners to action in doing the same.

I am eager to hear anyone's thoughts on the matter. Do you think this is counter-productive, and that attempting to get others to do the same would have a negative impact on the cause?

Park your truck in highly trafficked places on weekends, like public parking lots near malls, and hand out campaign material.

Parking the Truck

I will be parking where I work from day to day, as I need to commute with the truck, but I will look into finding a business that will allow me to park out on their trafficked areas for sure. I will also be putting in hinged pull-out doors on the structure with "Take One" arrows pointed at them that contain promotional fliers.

Even parking it on a busy commercial street and standing on the sidewalk handing out fliers would be good. I think it is better than going door to door in a way because people can choose to stop and talk to you if they want-you aren't interrupting them at home. I think having the truck next to you will help you get more attention. People will stop because they will want to know what it is about.

It's not a waste of time at all. The few hours you spend on it now will make impressions as long as you keep it that way. At this point RP needs name recognition. It's a marketing numbers game. The mainstream media has been marketing the "frontrunners" in news clips for a few years now. We have to find other ways to do it, and every little bit helps. While you may convert some people going door to door, and you should do this too, hundreds of thousands of people will see your truck over the next few months. It may take someone seeing Ron Paul's name 20 times before they really start to wonder who he is. You will be contributing to that on a non-stop basis with a decked out truck.

I think we should try everything, and then try to determine what is most effective (if that's possible), and do that. We should saturate people with Ron Paul until they can't possibly escape! MWAHAHAHAHA!!! ...... Direct mail sounds pretty good, but may be expensive. I think college campuses are going to be the biggest draw. Young people are generally anti-war, from my experience, and they are more open to Dr. Paul's message. And they have more friends. So, colleges are the way to go.

I'd like to know if it was an official National HQ staffer who told you it was a bad use of time, or one of these little alliance groups popping up.

Anytime spent promoting Dr. Paul's message is a good use of time. Visual queues such as your truck are a great way to promote the campaign. Hope it goes well!

Cap?

I do not have a cap for the truck, however, what I am setting up will most definitely exceed that side. As it stands, it will have a top facing banner about 12 feet long, one that goes more than the full length of the bed and cab combined. TO do this, we've worked out a special custom designed frame to support the banners (top and sides).

Currently the sides are done, and the top banner, being so massive, still requires more work to complete. Bill Faust, another RP supported, contacted me and was kind enough to put out a call to action on some Meetup groups, and I think even a post on these forums somewhere. With a bit of extra manpower, I might get this thing done tonight or tomorrow.

It will be something to behold. A video showing the journey to it's completion and the result is already almost done.

Stay tunes, this project will get done soon, and it should be something to behold.

Go for it, decorated cars are great vehicles <ouch> for promoting RP. Voters love this kind of stuff. The passion expressed is powerful. Plus, passerby get to put faces behind the spamming reports. I think everyone should have something on their car. I like window chalk because it really draws peoples eyes. I'm sure your's will have no problem in that department

I do this as well, plus with the window chalk you can change up the message to express how you feel--Ron Paul Wins Another Republican Straw Poll etc...

It is ridiculous to consider voting on this. Passion and creativity wins everytime. If we want to get Ron Paul elected everyone should realise that pandering to existing political/media/beaurocratic institutions doesn't get you far. Aren't we always complaining? By all means work within this corrupt political process to get a result. Is not that reason that Ron Paul is running as a Republican? Supporters(anal) who continuously berate and flagellate free thinkers' will not decide this election.Independents,Libertarians and X Democrats such as myself will get this great man over the line. Absolutely Not!

I live in Petoskey Michigan. I was converted to a RP fan at the beginning of May. I first shoe-polished my family van (a 12-passenger GMC Rally Van) right after the second debate with things like, "Google Ron Paul". I have a color laser printer that handles 8x14 legal paper and a laminator too.

I wanted to get maximum exposure during our peak tourist season up here in Petoskey - my goal was to have 6' long, nice looking billboards on each side of my van's longest windows, and then two smaller billboards in the back.

Anyone who knows anything about billboard or mobile advertising knows that it's a unique and effective way to increase name recognition. So I turned my van into a roving billboard. I strategically park it at Walmart right at the front. I slowly inch up in traffic to position the ads right in front of my audience. 95% of the time I pull up to the red light one or two car loads of people read the ad.

I suggest that ALL Ron Paul supporters shoe-polish their windows, or have some ads made to put on their vehicles, especially those with large panel windows. The exposure is great, and ends up being very cost effective. Name recognition is a very important part of this game.

This is kind of a small picture, but you can see how long the ad is. It's really designed to be viewed stationary, while at red lights.

What candidate evokes such passion...and why? Those who know Ron Paul understand. Those who don't take time to examine the truth will remain in the dark.
