'AMERICA IS ON TRIAL': Al Sharpton On Ferguson Protests

Rev. Al Sharpton gave a passionate speech in St. Louis on Sunday morning, where he sharply criticized the release of video allegedly depicting Michael Brown, the black teen recently killed during a police encounter, robbing a convenience store before the fatal incident.

"Michael Brown is gone. You can run whatever video you want. He is not on trial. America is on trial!" Sharpton declared at the Greater St. Marks Family Church, according to video posted by Fox 2. "I have never in all my years seen something as offensive and insulting as a police chief releasing a tape of a young man trying to smear him before we even have his funeral."

The relatively small city of Ferguson, Missouri, has been the epicenter of racially charged protests since Brown's death just over a week ago. Local police have aggressively cracked down on the demonstrations, wielding military-style weapons, issuing curfews, and arresting a number of protesters and at least two reporters.

"America as a nation, Missouri as a state, Ferguson as a city, is at a defining moment on whether or not we know and are mature enough to handle policing — whether it goes over the line or not. We cannot lecture nations around the world about how they handle policing and we have an inability of handling it in our own nation. All policemen are not bad; most policemen are not bad. But all of them are not right all the time. And when they're wrong, they must pay for being wrong just like citizens pay when they're wrong," Sharpton said.

Karma only affects you in the next life.
Same as Christian theology on reward and punishment. It happens after you die.

Otherwise the wicked prospering would poke massive holes in ones theology...

What you are looking at is just economics and sociology.

If anything its America getting exactly what its been wishing for, more government to stomp on trouble makers, in the misguided belief that they themselves are not in fact 'troublemakers' and won't be affected.

neither does Christianity think that way. The law of reaping and sowing is seasonal, not generational.

you pay taxes, brah?

Don't you mean, "is the fruit of your labor stolen from you by force, the resistance to which is punishable by death"?

Because I don't think anyone is A) liable for what is done with that which is stolen from him, and B) obligated to resist unto his ultimate murder because of what the thief might do with the stolen goods.

Refusing to pay taxes does not stop at fines and imprisonment. If "taxation" is unjust, and it surely is, then the "fines" and "imprisonment" are unjust and should also be resisted, and we all know what happens when you resist... So yes, refusing to pay taxes means that you acknowledge your murder is wholly on the table. And indeed, kudos to those who truly resist, but one is certainly not obligated to resist on the grounds that the stolen goods may be used for a nefarious purpose.

Suddenly police state stories are everywhere in media 24X7... it seems as if everyone is discussig 'rights' that RPF folks used to discuss years ago.

Defense Secretary Mark Esper has expressed concern within the Trump administration that federal law enforcement personnel President Donald Trump has dispatched to Portland, Oregon, to protect monuments and federal buildings may be confused with military troops, according to a Defense Department official.

Images of armed federal agents wearing military-style uniforms and riot gear devoid of identifying agency markings have raised concerns among many Americans who fear Trump's response to the civil unrest too closely resembles an authoritarian crackdown using the military.

"We saw this take place back in June," Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman said in a press conference Tuesday afternoon. "Some law enforcement make them appear military in appearance."
