During his election campaign, Pezeshkian had promised “a free and global internet for all” and pledged to lift filtering restrictions.

These promises had attracted some supporters. However, with the approval of this plan, those promises will not be fulfilled. The plan introduces new restrictions on internet access.

The government’s strategy includes permanent implementation of a “National Internet” for general citizens, while some groups may benefit from broader access.

Certain groups, with government authorization, are granted access to a broader level of internet, while ordinary citizens do not have such access.
