If this is what Brown students write about Stenhouse (with mention of Ron) what will they

Of course those duly elected officials should also not be able to violate a social contract. When a law defies the constitution it also defies the social contract, considering the constitution is a written contract reflective of the metaphysical social contract.

A Social contract is a joint-contract between the governed and the government, so it's mutually binding.

Legitimate government takes its powers from consent of the governed. Not some ersatz substitute like democracy, but actual consent. If a society doesn't offer more benefits than burdens to its members such that any member would gladly consent, it should be disbanded. The way to insure this is to allow peaceful secession at every level. That is the only way to have government by consent of the governed.

It can be a useful concept, but tends to be the 'groundrules for civilization' whatever writer or speaker at the time is trying to PUSH to be a 'social contract'. The only real way it is useful is if it is defensible.

Otherwise, it can be amended as easily and casually as it was purportedly adopted.

As a party to the social contract, I included a clause which allowed me to withdraw at any time without prior notice.

Don't believe me? Check it for yourself.

A little OT here, but i thought the article was poorly written. I thought as a Brown student your writing would be....better? IDK, it just seemed like it wasn't very well put together or that his words flowed smoothly.

Yeah. I thought that as well of both of them. The articles at the other Universities were much better crafted, however, maybe these are the ones the new folks cut their teeth on? I suppose some times they take more care than others. Ron's came out very fast, I do have to give credit for that.
