As I’ve written many times before, social media is a very biased sample of the U.S. At only 13% of population, if the highly-educated demographic of Twitter users had their way, Ron Paul would have been the Republican nominee and Chick-Fil-A would be out of business.

“The lack of consistent correspondence between Twitter reaction and public opinion is partly a reflection of the fact that those who get news on Twitter – and particularly those who tweet news – are very different demographically from the public,” writes Pew.

ah well....

I really do wonder how far off such a scenario of internet based elections really is. And that's a very dangerous thing if it were to ever come into fruition. I'm fairly sure that's not what you are endorsing (I didn't read the article) but there are those who do envision such a scenario.

California Assemblyman Phil Ting has proposed AB 19, a bill to require the California Secretary of State to implement an Internet voting pilot project.

What I think further compunds it is the use of social media platforms. As useful as they may be found to be they are equally contributing to further erosion of historical processes. I do not want to trade in my Constitution for a Terms Of Service agreement.

No, I want a paper trail, publicly counted and blue thumbs and the whole bit, for voting.
