If Jim DeMint lived in your state and was running for Senate election/reelection.....

Would you vote for Jim DeMint?

....would you vote for him, assuming his opponent was a regular Democrat?

Most likely. He is a shade better than the average neo-con. Usually in Senate races there are several Third Party candidates, though.

I vote yes.

He is a lot better than the typical neocon. He believes our politicians and reckless spending are the biggest threat to our country, a bigger threat than Islam or terrorism. He is not perfect on every issue, but he focuses on the right things.

I think he will be a great ally of Rand Paul.

Of course DeMint is NOT in the same league with Ron Paul but, again, no politician in Washington is.
Basically I agree a lot with his domestic policies and totally disagree with his foreign policies.
So I'd love to have a better choice than DeMint but if other options are 'all out neocon' OR 'typical dems', then I'd go for DeMint.

He is better on the economy than most neo-cons, but his foreign policy beliefs are the same. He still gets involved in pointless party politics.

QUOTE=Wikipedia Entry on DeMint]Following an attempted terrorist attack on December 25, 2009, DeMint criticized President Barack Obama for lacking focus on terrorism since taking office and for failing to appoint a head of the Transportation Security Administration. Demint has also had a singular role in blocking a vote on Obama's nominee for the position, Erroll Southers.[/QUOTE]

He also voted for the PATRIOT Act twice.

a vote for DeMint puts the blood of dead Iraqui & Afghan children on your hands...

Is it worth it???

That is one way of looking at it. We shouldn't take our eye off the ball is all I am suggesting. Sure, is DeMint better than virtually all current Senators? Yes, but he is against liberty on enough issues to make me question voting for him. Luckily, I am not in South Carolina, so I don't have to make that decision.

Although I voted yes, your concern is a valid one and I disagree with DeMint on foreign policy issue.
He promotes relatively sensible domestic policies but his approach to the Middle East is very troubling, to be honest.

One isn't a conservative if they push an imperial foreign policy.

I don't think he "pushes" an imperial foreign policy any more than a typical liberal Democrat. He's more mild on foreign policy than most mainstream Republicans.

Not if his Democrat opponent is also pro-war, which was the case when he got elected in 2004.

In most Senate races, at least one Third Party gets on the ballot. I would vote for the Third Party candidate if I liked them. In your latter post, you are essentially calling him the lesser of two evils candidate. If the question is, "if you HAD to vote for either a Generic Democrat or DeMint, would you vote for DeMint?" Then yes, I would, but if I had a principled Third Party candidate, then that is where my vote would go.

Pretty much. I would not call him a liberty candidate or trust him anywhere near as much as Ron Paul or other libertarians, but I think DeMint can bring the Republican party in a good direction and I think he truly wants the government to stop being so intrusive and spendthrift.

I can't say the same about slimeballs like Lindsay Graham, Dick Cheney, or Trey Grayson.

In a primary against my current neocon empty suite Murkowski I'd vote for him. But in a general it would have to be really bad dem that I wanted to vote against to get me to vote for him.
