I was all set to move on Ron Paul Revolution II, but...

Should we do this?

...but the recent Alex Jones interview really took the wind out of my sails. Well, for what it's worth, here is something I have been circulating, hoping to get something going...

==============================================

I’m working on a YouTube video to hopefully inspire a viral Sign Bomb on the day of Ron Paul’s announcement of his candidacy. But looking at the calendar, time is getting tight and the video is at least a couple of days away. Below is the script for the video which serves as a basic outline of a plan for a BIG KICKOFF to Ron Paul Revolution II. I think the best thing to do is put it out there right away and hope that people will agree with the vision and want to make it a reality.

Here in Los Angeles we are already planning a sign making meetup for next weekend. We have someone who can store the signs and have them ready to go. We already have a couple of favorite spots from Revolution I. We’ll shoot and YouTube our sign making meetup and hopefully inspire others to do so.

Please read the following and consider helping make it a reality.

================================================

Ron Paul is widely expected to announce his candidacy for President of the United States in mid February at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). In 2007, his run for the White House sparked an historic grassroots political movement that came to call itself “The Ron Paul Revolution”. Since that time, the landscape of American politics has been forever changed as a result. The Tea Party movement and the campaign to Audit and Repeal the Federal Reserve Bank as well as the historic change in Congress in the last election are all direct outgrowths of the Ron Paul Revolution. The core principles and issues that powered it are now deep in the public consciousness: constitutional power, big government, debt, taxation and personal liberty were once off limits to discussion and are now integral to the national discourse thanks to the personal action of countless Americans during the Ron Paul 2008 campaign.

History does not repeat itself but it does sometimes rhyme. In a few days we get a second chance at making history. Were you involved last time? Did you miss the chance to Be a Part of It? Our time has now come!

Let’s prepare NOW to give Ron Paul Revolution II a BIG KICKOFF.

Here’s the plan:

On the day that Ron Paul announces, let’s immediately show the country that he has the support to win. Let’s have a national sign and banner day that captures the attention of the citizens and the media.

In order to accomplish this, we must prepare now.

1. Hold local sign and banner making meetups as soon as possible. Build a big cache of visual ammo that can be passed out to the troops when the time is right. If you are not among a community of Ron Paul supporters, look online and find one or create one for your local community yourself. But even if you are a lone individual on a street corner that day, you will be part of a much larger, national event.

2. Prepare printed materials for distribution to passing pedestrians and motorists.

3. Develop an email and telephone list or online RSVP system of all those who want to show up for the sign bomb on the big day. Set up an email announcement or telephone tree or online calendar event to get the word out right away.

4. Designate a few key, high exposure locations as targets for Sign Bombing. Busy intersections are great for sign waving. Freeway overpasses are great for displaying big banners to oncoming traffic. Make sure that the predetermined locations are well known ahead of time.

5. At the end of the day, post your signs and banners in appropriate locations so that they will get exposure in the following days.

Imagine that you are an American on your way to work. You are listening the news on your car radio and you here a report about Texas Congressman Ron Paul’s announcement of his candidacy for President. Just then, you come to an intersection and there are 30 people holding “Ron Paul 2012” signs and chanting his name. One of them approaches your car and hands you a brochure. Who the heck is this guy? You need to know more and search the internet as soon as you get in to work.

6. Develop a telephone and email list of all local print, TV and radio media. Upon receiving the word, send a fax and email to the media telling them that large groups of people are at your preset locations waving Ron Paul signs.

7. At the Sign Bomb, take pictures and video. Send the pictures via email to the media on your mobile device. Call the media and tell them that a large group of people are at this location campaigning for Ron Paul.

8. When the event is over, if no media came out, bring copies of your pictures and video to the media and make yourself available for an interview in their studio.

Imagine that you are an American who has just returned home after a long day at work. You turn on the TV and the news reports that Ron Paul has announced his candidacy. They cut to a reporter standing at an intersection in a nearby city. He reports on the throng of Ron Paul supporters gathered behind him. Who the heck is this guy? You need to know more.

We are going for a nation wide, visible, immediate expression of support for Ron Paul that kicks his campaign off in a big way. We can do this, but in order to be successful we must get started right away. Make your signs. Set a spot. Get the word out. Rally the troops. Notify the media. Make it happen. Yes, we can.

Make it a celebration. Let it be a street party! Let’s put our gloves on, get in the ring and land a blow…

FOR LIBERTY!

Great minds think alike, although you've taken yours a lot closer to action. I was thinking everyone who posts on here should get or make 10 signs and figure where they could put them up, and put them up the second they hear that he announced. A money bomb will take more lead time, there should be some immediate sign. Plus, if he delays after CPAC in announcing, we can pick a day and put them up. President's Day, maybe?

To show him what we are thinking.

But your idea is much more thorough.

Far from giving up, I think we need to gear up and show him that IF he wants to run, the support is there.

You should send your email draft to tangent4ronpaul who apparently had the surviving meetup list with organizers (if you don't already have it) and send it there, too. At least that is what I would suggest.

this is his last major intense moment.
he needs to run to bring a focus
to the issues. if he gets the GOP party nod
but not the white house, he needs
to see that he has a metaphoric heir. i think that
he is securing a legacy and a place in
history. in the next few decades, there will be all
the GOP people that he has inspired, who
will bring his ideas to a bold new generation. thusly
announce early, campaign wisely & well & be
respected. this is his time, this is his hour, this is his life!!!

Have you guys still not figured out that sign "BOMBS" are essentially a code word in electoral politics for "wasting your time."

The guy or gal putting a sign up that may trigger a monstrous butterfly effect beats the person doing nothing.

Add an alternative if you are going to critique the people that are organizing.

Welcome to the forums!

^^ I concur with what Josh said!

my point was that sign waving = doing nothing. if sign waving and all the "quirky" tactics that were waged in 2007-08 actually worked you would see other campaigns doing it. When volunteers showed up to obama HQ's around the country they didn't tell them to go wave signs or find the most genius place to plant an obama sign on a bridge. If we are serious about this campaign we need to follow campaign tactics that actually work. Get lists of GOP voters from previous elections make calls encouraging them to look into ron paul. Get calling lists of independent voters and see if you can ID them for being supporters of rons campaign. Call all voters and do issue testing see what issues are popular in the areas you are working in. (if they are concerned about taxes and the debt or pro life issues ect.. that way you can plug how ron paul stands on their side with their issues that drive them to the polls.) Going door to door with literature and voter ID works great as well. One thing our movement is great at doing is organizing money bombs we need to dominate the early months as being the fundraising leader what the media cares about the most is who is raising money, if you raise a lot of money you get a lot of press and attention and people will not be able to marginalize dr. paul like they did in 07-08 when he had no name recognition or money raised. 07-08 were fine to do the whole meet up group sign waving thing because we were never going to win that race and even if we had obama would have smashed paul its good that he did not get the nomination. This time around we have to run to win not to educate. The biggest problem I see in our movement is that everyone is too independent and does not like "structural" approaches they think being spontaneous and unconnected will win the election. They have to wage an ordered and very strategic campaign. We need RPFers and C4Lers going to their local tea party gatherings and pushing them away from palin and towards paul but doing it in a polite manner and showing that paul is truly the guy for the job. Taking over local republican election seats , anything republican that we can grab works to our own benefit. I'm not bashing sign waving or any of that other stuff to be a jerk I really want dr.paul to win and we have a shot at it if we actually are effective in our efforts and not just waving abunch of signs and then when he doesnt win the primary scratching our heads as to why.

I disagree. All campaigns put them out close to elections. Having the grassroots do it for you is even better.

I agree with just about everything else you said though.

Yes, door to door is 100x better.

worst post in rpf history, not one fact to back up what you say since signs have helped spread the very revolution you speak of! negative rep^^^^^^^

If you think that is all we were doing then you might have missed the point. As Josh pointed out all campaigns do it, we just did it 'better'.

All good meetup groups and the like would be holding sign waves and lit drops at the same time. My group did a rotation of sign wavers, passing out flyers at the malls, and door to door. So when someone saw the signs during a sign bomb and/or sign wave they would know who we were talking about.

This tactic worked great in my area. Ron Paul got around 20% in the towns we worked on.

With that said, we should really focus on door to door and lit drops.

please provide me with objective evidence of how sign waving has done anything for "the revolution" I would truly love to see it. I wouldn't apply for a job as a campaign manager/co-ordinator anything with real responsibility if sign waving is your tactic. I'm not saying dont put signs up, obviously everyone does that but if you think just because a voter sees more ron paul signs than romney signs they are going to be like "oh i guess ill vote for him" if you saw a trillion mitt romney signs would that incline you anymore to vote for him? most people dont see a sign and say hmm im going to go home and get on the internet and check out his website. If you want people to pay attention to ron paul we need to raise a lot of money then the media will report a lot on it and people will see ron paul getting all this attention coupled with an agressive door to door / canvass / phonebanking scheme they can further solidify his political presence in the field.

Not the best way to greet a new member that realizes the biggest key to winning.

Every inch counts, so none should be discounted, but the point that M4L was making was solid. Just needs to work on initial delivery. ;)

Secretary of State Clinton, noticed the impact of the RP sign waving, video below... As for the media, they have loved Ron Paul since after the election, because, he's been right on. Unfortunately, once the 2012 election season really gets started, I suspect they may turn on him like a rabid dog. Unless, the MSM thinks he's truly unelectable, and push him like they did John McCain, to be a patsy so Obama can have a clear win, then it backfires in their face. Gosh I can only dream!
