So having family together this week due to an unfortunate death left me debating over the recent New Hampshire primary. My family made up of mostly moderate NeoCons stood firmly divided between Romney and Santorum. Romney garnering the vote of those who were easily puppet-ed by the MSM and Santorum taking the votes of those vowing "Christian values." of the 7 or so people debating most of them stayed on the sideline till a distant uncle decided it was time to spar over foreign policy. He asked "what would Ron Paul do with Iran pursing a nuclear weapon, the recent car bomb to a leading scientist, and the young man convicted and sentenced to death" instead of taking the question head on I took an alternative route allowing him to come to his own conclusions. "Remember when Israel bombed Iraq to halt their nuclear development? Can you name one politician that stood beside Israel in defending the sovereignty of its nation?" "I can: Ron Paul" "and to answer the question better we need to go back a few decades when the CIA overthrew a democratically elected leader and installed the Shah several times. after pursuing regime change twice do you not think that Iran's government has earned the right to hate and distrust us?" "The people of Iran are pro America, and if we can make America pro Iran or at least pro Iran's people then the people will eventually seek peace and regime change, but starving them through sanctions and threats of war wholeheartedly eliminates any possibility of that happening.
Stunned by the recent awaking of his frontal cortex he stuttered back a step. and let out a silent "I guess so." But not to be easily defeated he fired back "But of hundreds of pieces of legislation do you know how many bills RP has gotten passed?" "one" I replied "But can you do me a favor and name a single one of your state senator's or legislators? Or even your Governor?" he was caught off guard by the question but rather quickly admitted he could not. "You have to see that the spending is bi-partisan and that the best roll of the federal government is to do nothing at all. and when you de-empower the rights of the federal government and return it to the states, suddenly your state and local elections (who's outcome you control) becomes vastly more important." a few aunts almost clapped in agreement. with a dead look in his eye's he asked me why so many youth support RP. I told him: "It was due to our sharing of knowledge via the internet and that once you seek the truth and find it, a fire awakens in your heart and the cause of liberty sets solidly in your mind and the Constitution grants you a sword and shield that can be used to defeat the mind numbing control of the idiot box" feeling empowered and no longer facing my uncle I turned to meet my whole family's gaze that rested solely on me. I knew that I had hit a cord but I needed to close the deal.
"He's not electable". Ahhh the last of Fox News's dirty tricks. The hay-maker that should win every argument. "He's Not?" I whirled on him " Tell me something then? When Mitt Romney or Rick Santorum stands on stage against Obama and the DNC do you think Obama is going to give them a pass on their liberal records? Obama is a great intellectual debater and those two have to stand on stage and defend their records night after night against him. never getting an opening to pursue true conservative principles, only answering for past sins." "But with Ron Paul" "You can't do that" "Pitch Paul in a debate against Obama and he'll slaughter him with the Constitution and a Constitutional foreign policy." I had won. I could see it in the wrinkles of his face as they ceased and eased into enlightenment. "You've converted me" he said "I was just worried about his chances against Obama." "You don't have to worry about that." I said "Just look at the Independents, Indy's and democrats leave Obama in droves for a chance at electing someone like Ron Paul"
After the heated exchange I asked if they would vote Ron Paul now? looking quickly at each other and then at me they all slowly nodded and lipped the word "yes."
P.s. Sorry for spelling and grammar.
Edit: Fixing things.
