....while it is still relatively low.

As I understand it I first need to get a wallet, then I can buy some bitcoins.

Can anyone point me to a good place to get a wallet and a good place to transfer from paypal to bitcoins, easy peasy? I would be doing this from a pc rather than my phone (my phone will be replaced in a few days anyway as it has reached the end of its useful life)

It looks like Paypal to bitcoin is tough because of paypal, although may not be impossible?

Can you transfer the paypal funds to a bank account and then transfer from your bank account through coinbase.com?

Localbitcoins.com may be a good option for paypal as well, you would be meeting up with somebody who has bitcoins to sell and you would paypal them money and then they'll send you the bitcoins when you meet at a Starbucks or something.

If you have a smartphone, blockchain.info is a good wallet for transferring money if you meet someone in person or otherwise.

I personally buy bitcoin from coinbase.com. It takes a lot of time for a transaction to go through, and they might reject your first couple attempts to buy bitcoin, but there aren't that many better options for a US citizen.

I personally wouldn't buy bitcoin right now though. Since China stopped trading them, the bitcoin market is bearish. I'd wait a couple of days maybe even a week.

Yes bearish until China figures their shit out. Of course BTCChina may work something out and this whole market may turn on a dime. Not likely though. I've been buying all the way down. See how low we get or if ~$500 holds. Loads of newbies want cheap coins so I'm inclined to think it will. Then again, honey badger don't care.

PM a mailing address , I will send you something cooler , on the house .

It takes a few days to get set up with Coinbase, so the earlier you do it; the better. They verify your bank account by making two small deposits in it. Once your account is verified, Coinbase will allow you to buy up to 10 btc per day but it takes five business days for the coin to show up in your account. Your price is locked in, but they don't credit it until they are certain your payment cleared.

The only way I've found to use PayPal is buying coin on eBay; but the prices are usually sky high.

FWIW, if PayPal -> BC doesn't pan out, you can buy silver directly with PayPal at scottsdalesilver.com.

I started buying bitcoins with my paypal account and I get the coins in 2 hours sometimes.

What do the confirmations mean ? I use the Mycelium Wallet and under the transfers it mentions 867 confirmations, another says 654 confirmations .. what do the confirmations mean ? Anyone know ?

That is referring to the number of blocks in the blockchain that have happened after that transaction. The more confirmations, the more confidence one can have in a transaction. See a simpler (and potentially clearer) definition at Bitcoin.org.

Who do you buy from that accepts PayPal. I've searched high and low.

My first Bitcoin I bought off the eBay. When you buy the big one off of ebay the seller does a confirmation by phone. The seller calls your telephone number you have listed on your PayPal and Ebay account. Both of your accounts need exact same information to even do bidding on Bitcoins.

Anyhow a telephone call that would otherwise be relatively short turns into like an hour long conversation and next thing you know you're buying more and more Bitcoins.

haha this happens. Once you start discussing bitcoin, it turns into a marathon conversation.

I think the nicest thing about eBay - And I've only been buying Bitcoins for about a week now - Is once you find an honest seller That seller will try to sell the Bitcoins at higher prices but send you a link to when the auction is about to end and let you take the best offer bid. I like that. LOL

Has anybody here tried buying a contract for like 24 hours to mine Bitcoins ? I was thinking about trying that but I'd like to hear first-hand if anybody's ever bought one and how much was mined?

I did, and thought I would get at least 1/10th btc off the deal. The miner did work the entire 7 days on Bitminter, as I checked a few times a day and he was working lol.. At the end of the week, I still didn't have enough btc to even transfer out of the site.. I was at like 0.0007 something. Also, didn't even get one namecoin :(( .
