In light of the recent police shootings, hundreds of members of law enforcement and the public gathered on the steps of the state capital today to pray.

"In times of need, in times of grief, we are a state that turns to God," Gov. Bobby Jindal said. "We are a state that recognizes the power of prayer and the sanctity of human life."

Jindal asked for prayers for the safety of current officers and prayers for the families of the nine officers who have lost their lives in Louisiana this year.

"It is tempting to take the commitment and sacrifice for granted," Jindal said. "Too often we forget these officers make that sacrifice on a daily basis in order to protect our families and uphold peace in our communities."

According to a new FBI report, Americans are less violent than ever; its the police who’ve been increasingly violent.
