How the GOP Cheated Ron Paul Out of the Maine Caucus

Allegations of voter fraud against the Maine GOP are catching on. This is blowing up..

For Mitt Romney, the winning the Maine Caucus this past Saturday became a necessity after losing three battles in Missouri, Minnesota, and Colorado to former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum. Coming in third in Minnesota, far behind Congressman Ron Paul wasn’t helping his media ordained status as the frontrunner in the 2012 Republican Presidential primaries either. Residents and voters of the state that he had ignored until late this past weekend were likely surprised to see Mitt Romney personally speaking at several caucus locations. It was, however, enough for Mitt Romney to squeak a win past Ron Paul with 39% of the vote to Paul’s 36%–194 votes separating the two. Several key caucus events that the Maine GOP was involved in canceling, misreporting, or just flatly ignoring likely played a role in Romney’s victory.

1. Washington County

This conservative county had its caucus canceled by state GOP officials and, according to Paul campaign chairman Jesse Benton, Romney’s campaign was involved. The caucus was rescheduled for this Saturday because of reports of snow, which actually turned out to be a light dusting. John Tate, Ron Paul’s campaign manager, sent out an email blasting the state GOP for canceling the caucus, “The GIRL SCOUTS had an event today in Washington County that wasn’t canceled!”

Charlie Webster, the head of the Maine GOP, on Saturday evening stated that the results of Washington County would not be included in to the total, but luckily for the Paul campaign, the chair for Washington County is requesting that the results be counted. Disenfranchising and entire county is flat out absurd and every voter in Washington County should be furious.

2. Belfast, Maine

As per the official state GOP results, you would think that Mitt Romney had won the city, but the Chairman of the Belfast caucus claims that the “official” results are anything but accurate. At the caucus, the results of the vote were counted and announced publicly–much to the dismay of high ranking party officials. The Chairman of the caucus and several caucus goers maintain that Ron Paul won.

3. Androscoggin County

The WatchTheVote spreadsheet for this county has Ron Paul being under counted by 25 votes, which might seem like a small number, but when the margin of victory is 194 votes, it counts. The independently verified spreadsheet also lists other counties where Ron Paul was under reported.

And there are many, many more discrepancies between the Maine GOP’s numbers and the actual numbers.

On the bright side, however, Ron Paul supporters can look to their candidate’s own words during his speech after the Maine caucuses in which he claimed that he would likely carry the Maine delegation at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida this August. Just as a Romney win in Iowa flipped into a Santorum win when the votes were accurately and honestly counted, Ron Paul may just win Maine if this Saturday’s Washington county caucus results are included and if his supporters continue to press the Maine GOP about the accuracy of the results.

wish more elections were like belfast, maine. transparent and fair... so shenanigans are less likely to happen .

Lots of newbies pushing this.

I was against people wasting time on this as the numbers from Washington county from 08 did not statistically insure that county would matter. A lot more discrepancies have been discovered since then. The spreadsheet they are speaking of has Ron Paul at 43%. Yes it is the delegates that count but a win in the beauty contest would be a big psychological boost.

Damn straight!
As an old guy here in Maine I feel compelled to knock heads with the slimy bastards who would dare to blatantly attempt to steal the most important election in modern times.
This shit is just beginning. We will have those stuffed shirts begging for mercy come time they seek to re-up their job.
Maine has many folks of great character. You happen to see some last Saturday night who lack a meager understanding of the concept.

Like I said, this is just the beginning here.

I like the headline,

How the GOP Cheated Ron Paul ...

vs something like,

How Ron Paul was Cheated...

It will bring Dems in on the accusation to discredit the GOP, and help give the eventual Repub nominee a Pyrrhic victory if it's anybody but Paul.

I think their blatant stealing of Maine has awoken another segment of the population, that's why there are so many newbs catching the liberty train. I have a Canadian friend that was a RP supporter anyways - but man he's really taken up the torch on this topic.

I dunno why Im so caught up with this. I guess its gotten to the point where they dared be THAT blatant with corruption essentially (looks that way) or at the very very least make the election more convenient for one person (the person they favored) which is pretty much living in Tyranny lol

Just to be clear; I caught on 5 years ago at Peace rally in Kennebunkport Maine. I was a dem at the time. Some guy sat down next to me and started talking about Dr. Paul and foreign policy . I certainly was aware of him, but at that time gave him little thought. A bit of research later I was a registered Rep. My friends and family almost disowned me (that may have been in my favor).

Not being of the generation of computers and the world wide web I was content to lurk (i don't particularly like the term). Posting seemed way too intimidating and I didn't think I had much to offer.
Dr. Paul describes folks like me as remnants. I really like that term.
I will do my best from here on out to live up to what he acknowledges.

Thank you for having me.

Peace!
