How can I help spread the word to seniors and colleges?

Where I live (NY Long Island, North Shore) it seems nobody knows or cares about the debates, I see no Ron Paul signs, or any other signs for that matter, but I have access to a couple of colleges and retirement communities in the area, and even know a number of officials who work there etc. How do you suggest I go about spreading the word and getting the info out? I was thinking about getting some information packs/sheets from Paul's website store and leaving it at the front desks or in reading areas or lounges etc.

What concerns me as that I know for a fact (heard it with my own ears) many old people think Ron Paul is "crazy, looney, wants to end all the services that seniors need" etc etc etc etc. I'd love to bring the truth to them.

Looking at these information packs from his website store. I'd love to have something like a one-page information summary that outlines the basics such as: End the wars etc. Something that gives a possible voter cliff notes of where we are now with regards to wars, high prices, and protests etc, and where Ron Paul would steer the country if elected. Something that can be viewed as summarized at a glance when people pick up a sheet and read it.

Or perhaps a simple comparison chart like those photoshops people made where they have Ron Paul side by side with Obama, and they go down the list: bailouts - against, for. Wars - against, for etc.

check the YAL or Youth for Ron Paul groups at colleges in your area to start, it is easier to build on something than start from scratch, particularly if you are not a student yourself, I would think.

In regard to the colleges, you might check and see if there are any chapters of Young Americans for Liberty (YAL) in your area. YAL is a liberty oriented group which has brought Ron Paul to many college and university campuses for speaking engagements. IMHO they're doing some of the very best liberty outreach anywhere these days, and I try to support them as much as I can. Check out: http://www.yaliberty.org/


As far as a good Ron Paul summary sheet, I would recommend the brochures that are currently being prepared by RPF member po14015 (Curt) at www.ronpaulproducts.com

They're still working on proofreading the final draft, but these should be ready within a few more days. They look great, and I think they're going to make fantastic handouts.

As for retirement communities and senior centers, in addition to the handouts there's also the (rather expensive) possibility that you could distribute a few copies of Ron Paul's latest book, "Liberty Defined" for folks to read. The book is available in large print from Amazon.com, Overstock.com, and doubtless many other booksellers out there:

(NOTE: This book is a must for ANY Ron Paul supporter - it very clearly spells out his positions on 50 top political issues. If you've ever wondered, "what does RP think about __________ this is the book where you'll find your answer!)

But frankly, when it comes to seniors in places such as these, nothing beats the personal touch. Many of these folks don't have many people to talk to or visit with them. If you have the time, ability, and willingness to handle it, I would imagine you would find a lot of the seniors very receptive to Ron Paul. I'm guessing that if it's presented the right way, his message will resonate well with them.

That article might do well as something to hand out to seniors who have concerns about Ron's social policies.

I've been saying for years that he needs to stress at every turn that he doesn't intend to leave people hanging. There will be gradual phaseouts, and programs will still be there for those reliant on them. People need to hear this.

LIHEAP being cut may be a hard sell for some, but seniors in nursing homes don't utilize that particular program, so they likely won't even know what it is.

Hey Kusok. I'm not sure of Ron's chances in your area, but if they are about as slim as where I am you might consider investing at least a portion of your free time into the phone from home program.

Thanks for the responses all. I will check out the links. Those brochures seem kinda what I was looking for. I just (pre)ordered a bunch and will distribute them everywhere I go, especially lounges and reading areas of big retirement homes and colleges.


They should also make a 1-page cliff notes version. Like I said, something of the kind that local politicians mail out when some small county election is approaching. Something where candidates summarize what they are all about in hoping to grab the unaware and largely uninterested voter by promoting themselves as being for lower taxes or for creating jobs etc.

The great thing about seniors is that they DO vote and many are retired and involved in the community to keep them active. Most hold a huge affection for Reagan. You can join their groups (which they are happy to have younger people take an interest in them) and start by listening to their concerns and how they feel.

Most colleges have announcement boards where people pin up information/signs. You can also handout slimjims and whatnot at colleges. Dunno about seniors, sorry.
