I have read that we withdrew our troops from Iraq in 2011 but that we then sent some back in. Have we really withdrawn all our troops from Iraq?

the 57 states of America

51 guam
52 Northern Mariana Islands
53 Puerto Rico
54 Virgin Islands
55 American Samoa
56 Afghanistan
57 Iraq

We withdrew "combat" troops. The whole military apparatus (troops/MIC corporations/etc.) is still there bloodying and getting bloodied. They just aren't called "combat" troops. Welcome to double speak in the brave new Amerika.

And welcome to RPFs :)

There's still many PMCs in Iraq/Afghan as well, as I understand it.

Still about tens of thousands of 'contractors' in Iraq.

The US didn't invest in building a billion dollar embassy bigger than the Vatican just to leave it to the locals, lol. We will never leave... ever.

No, they just left the military and just went to work for blackwater xe or whatever they call themselves these days. They are still there.

Over a year or so ago I read that our troops were giving "training" in Jordan for Iraqi troops... but haven't seen anything on this since.

More recently it looks like we're back into providing weapons for them:

"Two years after the United States withdrew all combat troops from Iraq, the U.S. military is helping Iraq again in the fledgling government’s all-out battle against insurgents. A massive C-17 cargo plane landed in Baghdad on a recent evening to deliver ammunition — this time, 2,400 rockets — for Iraqi helicopters, military officials said, as Iraqis fight a resurgent al Qaeda in al Anbar Province. ... To help Iraqi forces with a fight for Fallujah, the U.S. is meeting additional arms requests that Iraq has made on short notice, officials said. In December, 75 Hellfire missiles were provided as part of the Foreign Military Sales program and an additional 100 Hellfire missiles, 10 Scan Eagle drones and 48 Raven drones will be delivered later this year, officials have said."

There's no doubt, however, that we've got CIA Assets crawling all over that country at this point... and last month Obama defended the U.S. invasion of Iraq, sort of.

I saw that live on Rachel Maddow's Troop-A-Palooza-Obama-War Ending Special.

That special could've really used some ice dancers and little dogs riding ponies to legitimize the event and truly honor Obama's brave decision to end the war. MSNBC totally dropped the ball. Peace out.

Obama did everything he could to stop the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. A contract under Bush with the Iraqi government had given the date U.S. troops had to withdraw unless the Iraqi puppet government agreed they could stay (which is what Obama had hoped for). Like Karzai in Afghanistan, Maliki was pressured by his own citizens to make the U.S. troops leave according to schedule. And since Maliki refused to give U.S. troops amnesty for any future illegal attacks on Iraqi civilians, Obama decided to withdraw. But not without a lot of force and pressure placed upon Maliki to do otherwise.
