Letter I just sent to a friend (and fervid supporter of Hillary):
I don't think you have nearly enough awareness of the seriousness of the PATRIOT Act, the "Forever War", and associated changes in the balance of power (e.g., among many issues, revocation of the Posse Comitatus Act http://balkin.blogspot.com/2005/07/does-posse-comitatus-act-still-exist.html) toward an unchecked executive branch.
As a start, I recommend you watch this video by Naomi Wolfe - a woman, a womans' rights advocate an author, a "liberal" (I'm sure a Democrat). This is about how a Democracy becomes a totalitarian dictatorship and how advanced we are along that road.

Any candidate for President that does not have complete and immediate REVERSAL of the current march toward totalitarianism as an avowed plank - any CITIZEN - has their priorities seriously confused.
I was hoping the Democratic party was going to stop this insanity; they aren't. 80% of the US population wants out of Iraq; it doesn't matter. HR1955 is now SB1959. This is the "Thought Crime" bill which is badly enough written that you and I probably qualify as a felonious "terrorists" merely for writing this to you. It has overwhelming support by both the Democrats and the Republicans in Congress.
Anyway, please watch this video. Maybe you can write Senator Clinton and get her to publicly and clearly disavow her previous votes for Iraq and for PATRIOT Act - to swear that she will reverse all the changes put in place by Bush. To swear that she will vote against SB1959. Tell me when that happens and I will include her in the very small group of people I would consider for public office.
