I just saw part of an interview with one of the people that started groupon. For those not familiar, groupon is a service that promotes local businesses via coupon deals. Google recently tried to buy them for $5 Billion as their business has seen explosive growth. They turned down google's offer. They haven't been around that long but have made 19.5 Million sales and have millions of customers.
So I got to thinking, could we do education, gain supporters and do targeted creation of Meetups with this, and I think the answer is yes. Remember, we would be reaching out to people that for the most part are not currently Ron Paul supporters. They take a percentage of sales. 30% for promoted sales (this is the one we want), 10% for non-promoted sales and 50% a deal of the day - meaning the deal goes out to a ton of people in a one deal a day e-mail. you get to be that coupon once or twice a year.
A museum in Chicago did a 50% off of a years membership and got 450 [correction - 5,000] new members with one daily coupon.
Anyway, the paperback version of "The Revolution, a Manifesto" is selling for about $9.80 on Amazon, it's $15 retail. Does anyone know what they cost in bulk? I'm guessing about $5 each. add ~$1 for shipping, and toss in some fliers and maybe a bumper sticker so we can connect them with a Meetup, C4L and YAL. If we add $1.50 to the price for groupon's cut we come up with $7.50 or half off retail and underprice Amazon. The goal is to gain supporters, and Meetups full of people that were not involved last time. We should also get names, addresses and e-mail addresses. Remember, this is all very local so we can say "I want a Meetup here", and advertise the book where ever that is.
One factor is that you are supposed to be a local business, and we are neither local or a business. However they grew out of something called the point, that might be useful for other things so I think they would work with us.

The Point:

The Point lets anyone start a campaign asking people to give money or do something as a group, but only if the campaign hits a predetermined tipping point.
Would people be interested in tossing in a few bucks for books to run a test case and see how well it works?
An alternative would be to have no inventory. I noticed that The Revolution & End the Fed came out to $24 on Amazon. Toss in a pocket Constitution and it qualifies for Free Shipping. Amazon might be willing to cut the price a bit if we talked to them, as they would be making money and they do have that affiliates program. The downside would be lack of literature along with it, but given an address / e-mail that's not a huge issue.
