GOP support for Iraq war wavering

I still think a majority of the Republican base will be in favor of staying in Iraq.

Something else to consider is that Tancredo has offered somewhat of a nuanced position on Iraq. I think he said he was against the troop surge. Maybe Tancredo calls for a pullout of troops in a few months?

But no one in the GOP can match Paul's record on Iraq going back to 2002.

That poll suggests that Republican opposition to the war is at 38%. We need all of them voting for Ron in the primaries.

Very true. Dr. Paul has the moral high ground on the Iraq issue.

I think it's longer than that BillyBeer.

I just sent off the following messages to Senators Lugar and Voinovich:

Dear Senator Lugar,

As a conservative Republican who feels that our party has gone far off course and abandoned many of the values on which it is based, I must say that I was overjoyed to hear today that you have come to the conclusion that our current Middle East policy is a failure.

It is heartening to see prominent Republicans in the Senate, like yourself and Senator Voinovich, advocating what the American people have been asking for for so long -- a sensible strategy for withdrawal from Iraq.

I hope that you will take this position to its logical conclusion and advocate the one true thing that can restore America's standing in the world and truly help protect us from terrorist anger in a way that nothing else can; I am speaking, of course, of a non-interventionist foreign policy and total repudiation of the Wilsonian/neoconservative notion that we can spread Democracy through military adventurism around the globe, even as our Republic and our precious Liberties crumble away here at home.

Lastly, I would urge you to take the following into consideration. When it comes to the 2008 presidential race, I hope that you will demonstrate the courage of your convictions by endorsing the single Republican presidential candidate who has stood on the right side of this pivotal issue -- and many others -- from the very beginning, Representative Ron Paul of Texas.

Thank you again for taking a stand on this issue. I truly hope that actions like yours can help us put the Republican Party back on track and restore our Republic to its former glory.

Most sincerely,
etc. etc. etc.

Don't get me wrong because I am glad to see people making statements about getting out of this war, but I have NOOOOOOOO respect for them at this point. They are like rats jumping off a sinking ship or using it merely as a political tool for '08. All of them who have stood silent for this long make me sick

Yeah, yeah, but you catch more flies with honey, etc.

I kid you not, half the time I feel like we are caught up in Braveheart. Ron Paul is obviouslly Willaim Wallace, we are like his close followers, and most of the country is like the people who want to go home and not fight when they see the forces of the Powers that Be (MSM and the establishment dirty tricks in general)

Yeah I know the movie isn't historically accurate, it still serves as a decent metaphor for where we find ourselves.

This Senator and most others currently in power are just like the Scottish "nobles" in that movie - they will support Ron Paul when and if it serves their interest, but we better not depend on them or trust them.

You mean you don't already have one? ;)

I stayed up verrrry late last night to watch that movie because everybody here references it.

I want one like V had. Iron or steel maybe? All I know is that one guy about broke his hand when he punched it.

when do we get to the part where he throws one of their butchered bodies from the rafters?

The question is whether they have really seen the light, and genuinely have stopped supporting the war, or whether these elected officials on the GOP side sense mass defeats at the next election.

I'm sure it's the latter, but we ought to milk it for all it's worth.
