Area conservatives will have a chance to meet and talk with Republican Party candidates and elected officials during a Lincoln Day dinner Jan. 9.
The Buffalo Trace Area Lincoln Day Dinner is the combined effort of Republican parties from Mason, Fleming, Lewis and Bracken counties. It is the first time area parties have joined together to host a Lincoln Day dinner, said Lewis County Republican Party Chair Ben Harrison.
Featured speakers at the event will be Congressman Geoff Davis, Secretary of State Trey Grayson and State Rep. Jill York, Harrison said. Also invited are candidates for the U.S. Senate seat that will be vacated by Jim Bunning in 2010. Those candidates include Elkton businessman Bill Johnson and Bowling Green eye surgeon Rand Paul. Grayson is also a candidate in the Senate primary race.

While closely associated with the Republican Party, Hunter said the dinner is for any conservative, whether that person is registered Independent or even Democrat.
Hunter said he expected hot topics at the event to be healthcare and the state budget.
Prior to the dinner, Paul plans to attend a town hall meeting in Vanceburg at the Lewis County High School auditorium. The meeting is at 3 p.m. and offers the public a chance to ask questions. Rhonda Massie, who is assisting with the organization of the meeting, said she also expects healthcare and government spending to be hot topics.
To attend the Lincoln Day dinner, reservations must be made by Jan. 5. Cost is $20. Social hour for the event begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner served at 6:30 p.m. The dinner will be at the Maysville Conference Center.
