I just had a small brain fart. I cannot imagine this has not been previously conceived or even attempted, but thought I'd toss it out, even if it is a revisitation.

We have a small handful of decent folk in Congress... the Massies, Amashes, and so on. Would there be any value in establishing an explicitly identifiable and labeled coalition of liberty-minded senators and representatives within the GOP? I am thinking of a coalition that would set its own course of action regardless whether it comports with GOP wishes. I might call it the "Liberty Coalition". It would be like a party within a party and could indeed act in a capacity similar to that of a fifth column, only without the covert sneakiness. The Liberty Coalition would be provide a conceptual rock to which people could anchor their thoughts - something upon which to grab. There would be faces and names associated with it for accountability's sake, as well as that of praise.

If it were to gain traction, it could act to wrest control of the GOP from the hands of those who have corrupted it and maintain the den of iniquity as such. They could act as a separately identifiable and CREDIBLE voice to the voters to announce strategies, issues, plans, vipers to be ousted, and good men to be taking into the fold. With sufficient credibility, even the remaining old guard being the self-interested cretins that they are, might be moved to alter their habits. Instead of attempting to take the party by stealth, do it boldly to the American people. Outline a separate platform with truly liberty-oriented "planks". Show the American people what you are about and solicit their help to make the Republican party worthy of the moniker.

It may not be a perfect solution, but I see the possibility of it being a damned sight better than this hopeless mess in which we now wade to the level of our nostrils.

On top of it all, I would even invite Democrats to join up on the assumption that we hold more in common that that which divides us. Division has been Theire key weapon against the reclamation of freedom. is it not well past time we dispense with the childishness of partisan stupidities and get to something effective?

What do you think?
