Georgia certified its presidential election results for the second time after a post-certification recount ordered by the Trump campaign once again affirmed President-elect Joe Biden’s victory, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger
announced Monday, as Georgia’s Republican state officials continue to uphold the state’s election results and reject calls by President Donald Trump to overturn the vote count.
Georgia previously
certified its presidential election results after a hand-count audit ordered by the Trump campaign, which the Trump campaign then challenged again with a request for a
second recount.
Raffensperger said Monday that the state has “now counted legally-cast ballots three times, and the results remain unchanged,” and was recertifying its election results ahead of a “safe harbor” deadline Tuesday, after which state certifications cannot be challenged by Congress.
Raffensperger and election official Gabriel Sterling once again rejected accusations from Trump and other Republicans that the election was “stolen” and rife with fraud Monday, with Raffensperger saying the continued claims were “hurting our state.”
Sterling debunked a recent conspiracy theory
suggesting there’s video evidence purportedly showing voter fraud, likening the continued stream of voter fraud claims in Georgia to “a ridiculous game of whack-a-mole.”
Raffensperger praised a
court decision Monday that dismissed former Trump attorney Sidney Powell’s lawsuit alleging voter fraud in the state, saying in a statement that the allegations in Powell’s lawsuit, dubbed “the Kracken,” “prove to be as mythological as the creature for which they’re named.”
