Gallup: "Are you better off now than four years ago?"-56% "Yes"-Highest ever

These polls are garbage anymore.

There's no way this is valid and at the same time Biden's beating Trump by 16 points nationally.

^this.

It's all herd management bs. Wake up.

Polls are released nationally to shape opinion, not report it. A poll put out by a 100% Beltway establishment organization saying that 56% of Americans say they're better off now than 4 years ago is meant to be looked at by the vast swaths of people struggling right now as "if 56% say they're better now, I must be doing something wrong" instead of more accurately "me being f'ed by government yet again."

If you couldn't get a job or start a company and get off welfare under President Trump then it isn't the government fucking you. It's yourself.

Unless the public sees no connection between who's in power and how well off they are.

As George Carlin said, "Look at the average person, and realize that half of them are stupider than that"

That is possible . On one hand i'd like to think they see the difference between the tax cuts and getting tax increases , on the other hand i doubt they are that bright .

How many of the millions of Americans are now seeking help from food banks - job losses- being kicked out of homes rented or purchased - can’t pay their utilities?

Right, so people aren't allowed mobility, improvement, or happiness so long as there is even one person out there starving.

AOC, I see you lurking RPF with that phony account.

I saw this poll the other day. And the above Tweet seems like an explanation. I think the way Trump acts is the reason he is likely to lose.

Corona taints everything the way that terrorism tainted everything back in 2001/2002. We have 200,000 dead from COVID. (And yes I'm taking that number at face value). That's 1 person dead for every 1,650 people. Which means the likelihood that someone in your immediate family died of COVID is pretty small. But look at how insane Americans went over 3,000 dead on 9/11. The Trump / Bob Woodward tapes aren't helping matters any. "I know it's bad but I don't want people to panic." WTF says that? Almost none of us were personally affected by 9/11 but our collective psyches were affected. Same with COVID-19. So people can honestly answer "I'm better off than I was 4 yeas ago" and still think that the country is on the wrong track. Mike Pence did a good job of laying out that the Trump administration did everything possible to halt the pandemic, but Trump should have never given that interview to Bob Woodward. Pence also made a good argument that Biden's handling of swine flu was worse and that Biden only got lucky that it wasn't as deadly. But right now the polls are reflecting people's fears rather than their hopes. I have no idea what will happen on November 3.

I don't know. But you must not be one of them. If you were then you'd know that food banks have far more food than they can deliver. Trump also did a moratorium (stoppage if you don't know what that word means) of evictions for people who get federally subsidized housing. That's all he can legally do. Many governors, including the conservative republican governor of Alabama, have take further steps to protect non-commercial tenants from evictions. And some tenants have abused the process. (I know this because my parents own rental property.) Many utilities across the country have allowed people to go months without cutting off water, electricity and gas. Even network companies have worked with people because children need the internet for online schooling. So despite dire economic times, things are nothing like you've described.
