When did freedom and privcey suddenly become unpopular? I was talking with a friend and we got on the topic of freedoms and goverment spying. He said the famous line, "If you have nothing to hide whats the difference?" I don't get it, why have people just given up the constitution and accepted goverment rule?

What I need is a good argument agianst goverment spying to explain why this will turn out bad for us in the end. I tried my best but it seems that they are brainwahsed far enough to think that invasion of privacey = safety.

Mind you he also thinks Rudy is a good canidate for president and that Paul, while a good canidate, has no chance in hell.

People are asleep at the wheel and they need to WAKE UP!! Loss of privacy means the government can see everything you do, knows everywhere you go and everything you like. How can people just accept a surveillance state? Seeing places like London where there are security cameras EVERYWHERE and that they don't keep anyone safer should creep any sane person out at least a little bit.

If he has nothing to hide, why does the government have to invade his privacy without his permission?

The government is basically having warrentless searches. You need to tell him that if the people don't step up, the government will continue to walk over anything they deem 'incorrect'. You can site instantces where innocent people have their rights stripped, such as the lady at the airport. You need to tell him that it's not about if anyone has anything to hide, it's about what's legal and not legal.

If the government is allowed to do that, what else is the government allowed to do? Ask him that. Where is the line drawn? Can they come into our house and watch what we do? Tapping phone lines is no different.

I've heard a couple of people say this. They like what Ron Paul has to say, they think he makes good points, but he's not a realistic candidate to vote for.

How does that perception get changed? Straw Poll numbers? How much media attention he gets?

I know there are people who are free thinkers and then there's the sheep. What do we do about the sheep?

we have to heard our own sheep ;)

I'm doing that with friends in europe now... they're not 'sheep'.. but people who will listen to me ;)

just everyone do the same

I don't know. Not enough people read 1984 these days, I guess...

Ask him to spend 2 hours of his time watching this fascinating vdeo and you probably won't have to say another word to change his mind:

America: Freedom to Fascism - Director's Authorized Version

Yeah the problem is not just that it might be a minor annoyance for someone with nothing to hide. The problem is when those in power change and suddenly they don't like you and abuse the power you gave them against you. THAT is the problem. It's not a question of might this be a good thing right now, it's a question of HOW COULD THIS BE ABUSED IN THE FUTURE. The problem with most government programs is that the potential for abuse is extreme, and the rewards are minimal.

Am I the only one that finds it mind blowing that we Americans are actually having this conversation?!

That being said...

I remember hearing Micheal Savage say a while ago that "If you have nothing to hide whats the difference?"
I remember thinks 'Well gee micheal, why not have securtiy cameras in your house if you have nothing to hide.' idiot.

I think women are more into promises of security than men - I think females are programmed that way naturally.

Men, on the other hand, seem to me to be much more comfortable with freedom.

There's a poll somewhere on gender here ...it's true even of this forum - predominately male.

So there it is. Freedom is more popular with males, while promises of security are more popular with females.

:)

Nothing to hide?

That's exactly what the Rabbis said to the Jews in 1930's Germany when they were all told to wear stars on their sleeves - and look how that worked out.

That's all you need to tell people who say that.

Why do people just accept this, but when the government says they can't tell us something because of "national security reasons" people just accept it.

There is nothing special about government! They are just people like us! I wish I could remember the video I saw recently which was during the Oliver North trials, and one of the senators keeps saying "That is touching on a national security issue and we ask you not to puruse that line of questioning." Essentially anything that THEY want to hide all they need to do is say national security issue, but we have no right to privacy whatsoever!

Wake up!

No disrespect intended to women but I also think it makes them more susceptible to being manipulated by hot button words like "terrorism" and "jihadist". Just my opinion tho.

Perception changes

The perception gets changed by Ron Paul becoming an obviously serious contending
candidate by winning some primaries and eventually by winning the Republican nomination. It won't be easy, but it's not impossible. Some of that is up to us,
and some of it is up to Ron Paul. And a lot of it is up to God. May our people wake
up.

I agree. If you do much reading at sites for women, you've probably seen lots of this.

Women comprise what percentage of the vote?

And I dare to ask...

What are the implications **for freedom** ???
