I saw this article on the Washington Post about the republican congress secretly wanting Cheney out. If the WP has some insight into this then Fred Thompson could become the new VP. He would be a larger threat to us than any other candidate. It would allow him to steer the ship and show how he can be the peace maker/restore the Presidency.

I really hope he doesn't become VP. It could be dangerous.

Oops, yeah, that one:

I think some of his current popularity is due to the fact that he has not officially stated what his position is on many of the relevant issues. Do we know what he thinks about Iraq? How about going to war with Iran? Does he like torture? What does he think about illegal immigration and how will he fix it? How about abortion and gay marriage? Taxes? Role of the federal government?

We do know he has engaged with Michael Moore in a war of words. And he likes cigars, possibly Cubans. :D

I could see this backfiring on Thompson though.

Getting in bed with Shrub, who has the lowest approval rating of any president I remember could be a bad thing. You would immediately get viewed as Bushes hand picked candidate for 2008.

Guys, I really wouldn't worry about it.

All of this chaos and uncertainty is in favor of Ron Paul.

WTF?? This writer must be insane.

What is the protocol to replace a VP removed by impeachment? Certainly someone already in the chain of command would take Cheney's position...

EDIT: I also don't think we have to worry about this at all.

The President has the right to name a new Vice President, but only with the consent of Congress. With the Democrats in control, I doubt this will happen. And Fred Thompson would go through massive grilling on Capital Hill at the Confirmation hearings.

What is the protocol to replace a VP removed by impeachment?

Section 2, 25th Amendment:
Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President,
the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take
office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of
Congress.

Yeah. Thought it would be a little more difficult for Bush.

Yeah, no worries

EVEN IF Cheney could be impeached and Fred Thompson could be confirmed to replace him, the amazing stink which would attach to Fred Thompson if Bush were to choose him as a replacement (basically, he joins the Bush Administration, unless we really believe this VP-is-a-4th-branch-of-government nonsense) would guarantee him as unelectable in 2008.

7000k+ membership, but how many of those are advertisement spam bots? A more accurate gauge of activity is looking at posts/threads, which this forum clearly has more of and it's been up for a lot less than fred's board.

You have to register. If you want to know what they say about Paul it's pretty much the same stuff said elsewhere - he's crazy and obscure.

The Cheney scenario has been floated before. The new VP suggested would be Condileeza Rice.

In my view, the addition of Thompson is wonderful news, because:

A: It just further splits the pro-war, neocon vote.

B: The way the establishment is fawning all over him indicates that they can see that the front-runners they've anointed so far aren't catching on with the public (if you look at the establishment polls, Giuliani's, McCain's and Romney's numbers have significantly eroded over the past 6-8 weeks, even before the addition of Thompson, and 20-25% are now undecided), so now they're throwing something else out there to see if it sticks.

All these polls showing support for Fred Thompson just shows how fluid the campaign is. Come on. It's freaking JUNE, okay??? 8-)
