This morning a guest on Fox & Friends was talking about his charity that provides "food stamps for pets." Despite how that sounds, it's a completely private charity that takes no government funds--and, as the guy explained, would reject government funds if offered.

The charity pre-screens pet-owners (including making them sign legal documentation that they meet the poverty level to qualify to receive aid from the charity) and then ships them pet food directly (so no money or actual "pet food stamps" go the pet-owners, just actual pet food).

Fox News anchor Steve Doocy was impressed and said [paraphrasing]: "[No government involvement. Totally private. Good charity helping out people and pets in need.] You guys are doing it the right way!" To which the guy responded, "Well, I'm a Ron Paul supporter," and shook Doocy's hand. It was totally unexpected (especially for Doocy), but it was awesome! and very impressive to see someone living the Ron Paul message and showing it in action to the world.

Kudos to whoever that guy is. If someone gets a tube, I'll add it to this post so that everyone can see it and maybe help the guy out or simply be inspired.

EDIT: I just realized the Thread Title could appear to read that the charity feeds pets along with feeding Ron Paul. Ha. Do not interpret it that way as it's meant to mean the Ron Paul supporter promoted both the charity and Ron Paul. Haha.

UPDATE: Found the tube with the interview. Click here: http://video.foxnews.com/v/2189807560001/food-stamps-for-pets. And found the website of the charity the guy runs: petfoodstamps.org (note: the website is currently down due to server overload).

Weird. I posted an article about this this morning. No idea it was a Ron Paul guy. I also misread it. Pleasantly surprised.

This is how we win minds... Forget the arguing. It's fruitless.

Demonstrate how liberty can solve problems better than government. Then let people know that you are part of the liberty movement. People will follow.

If this guy comes on these boards, make yourself known! I have a huge +rep for you!

I remember when there was a food drive during the campaign and some other things like this. I really like to have this stuff.

Not only a wonderful effort, but the guy's extra brilliant for not revealing his support for Ron Paul until the cameras were rolling. Love it!

From Marc Okon: Founder of the Pet Food Stamps program

All the support has been wonderful and an affirmation of the virtue of private charity. Helping those in need, voluntarily, is the foundation of which a mature, caring and civilized society is based upon.

+rep!

Thank you for what you are doing.
Will support you when I can.

I've seen my fair share of people having to give up their animals because they were struggling/fell on hard times. What a wonderful charity. Helping others to keep their beloved pets while they are going through a rough spot.

I read someone's essay @ the daily Paul that was on the power in feeding the poor.. In the article it is stated that wasThe church used to take care of the poor now the government has taken over. If our movement started helping the poor get off of government programs we would gain a lot more clout. Every business owner in our movement ought to find away to hire someone who is out of work. Instead of thinking and acting contrary to them. Help them find their freedom fRom government bonds.

Sounds good and I'm sure we're all for it. But there's a problem. The fedgov has arranged it so no one can afford that any more. They take our taxes so they can take their cut before they commit the meager remnants to feeding the poor, and leave us little for our own charitable work. And they make hiring workers nigh on to impossible--unless, of course, they're in Calcutta.

Yeah, it would be nice to demonstrate how much more efficient charity is than government. It would be nice to demostrate how much more efficient the market is than government. But that's hard to do while the guys with guns are busier than ever robbing you blind.

Wonderful thing you're doing there Mark and I just looked at the supplier's website. Excellent pet food choices there - so many grain free selections it's mind boggling!

We could do it together though we would have to stop feeling defeated. Times are tough but my ass ain't kicked quite yet.
