Before you print the copies, make a digital copy of the slate in a Ron Paul Forums post.

Then generate a QR code with a link to the online post/copy at a free site like http://www.qurify.com/en/

Make sure to put the QR code on the printed slate, which if anyone scans, will take them RIGHT to the forum post where they can validate the slate is authentic.

Voila. Fake slates stopped. I don't want to assume, but I would think most Paul supporters have camera phones with QR code apps on them these days, and if they aren't sure, have a friendly fellow supporter scan the code.

I'll post an example here, linking to this very forum post:

That QR code above links back to this article. So if I were printing a slate to take to the convention, I would first post the slate here on the forums, generate a QR code linking to that article, then put that QR code on every printed copy of the slate at the convention. This way, if there are any doubts, anyone can scan the code and be brought directly to the article here on the forums to validate that the contents of the slate are authentic.

I like it, but you'd have to let everyone know somehow what color is the authentic Ron Paul color... and someone could go to kinko's or the hotel's business center really quick and make 100 copies in that color.. I think it's better if there's a way to tie it back to an authenticated, trustable source online...

And we KNOW if some Romney hack posted a fake slate on RonPaulForums.com and tried to replicate this, the forum members would tear it apart or the mods would delete the post so that everyone would know it's fake.

Epic Broomstick Guy™ made a suggestion:

  • Go to the mic and make a Point of Information.
  • Inform the entire convention that there are individuals handing out fake slates.
  • Expose and embarrass the individuals trying to cheat publicly.

this is actually a great idea. maybe a website just for the official slates. with the qr code linking them to that site.

Ya or go much more low tech, and sign each one with a signature with glitter ink.

That way you couldn't just photocopy them. Reproducing them would require more effort than 1 guy with a photocopier.

Or just a URL would be good.. Could use tinyurl to shorten it, or something similar.
I know many, many people who can not use QR codes, but lots of cell phoes have basic browsers now.

It's called DRM (Digital Rights Management) You engineer a way for the individual to verify the authenticity of a document by taking them to a site that you have total positive controller over to verify the document. Excellent idea.

The members of each slate need to be asked to go on stage as a group.

Plenty of people in the audience will recognize the impostors and shame them.

Also, dead people on the slate (like in Nevada), won't be able to climb on stage.

Seems pretty fail safe. I'm one of the dinosars who doesn't have nor want a smart phone, but I can assure you that the romulans aren't going to go that high tech. My guess is this who fake slate thing is probably DOA now anyways.

I like that better.

As far as QR codes go, I could copy them in seconds and print slates in my car that will make people think they are voting for the right thing. The glitter pen is actually a better idea, but that would also need to be done with multiple colors, etc.

I'm a fan of QR codes, btw, just not for this purpose. My other critique of that idea is that most people will not understand them, besides the potential for confusion. ("Hey look, the QR code goes to RPF, so you know it's legit.")

As I was trying to point out and maybe didn't do well enough... now you will have "techies" telling people the "foolproof" slates that aren't foolproof at all. It's no more foolproof than putting an url on a piece of paper. Even worse when people don't understand it. If this were the RP strategy and I were a cheating Romney guy, I'd easily burn the RP supporters.

The easiest way is just to make sure that you only take a slate from someone you trust. Or have someone you trust double check the slate you are holding.

You can also provide a code number on the real slate and announce during the point of information that the real slate should have the number e.g. #1295 on it. That way even people without a smartphone can verify that the slate in their hand is the right slate. The code number should be kept a secret by the campaign/grassroots leading up to the convention off course
