Authorities said a Ferguson (Mo.) police officer was shot and wounded while on patrol Saturday evening.

St. Louis County Police Sgt. Brian Schellman said the shooting took place at approximately 9:30 p.m. local time. Details of the shooting and the officer's injuries were not immediately available. The shooting comes amid a fresh flare-up of unrest following the deadly August 9 shooting of a black teenager by a while police officer.

The shooting sparked days of violent protests and racial unrest in the predominantly black community. Some residents and civil rights activists have said responding police officers were overly aggressive, noting their use of tear gas and surplus military vehicles and gear. Michael Brown Sr., the father of the teen who was killed, called the looting that has been interspersed with the protests "disrespectful," but the "First Amendment protesting? They have that right."

On Thursday night, Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson attempted to march with protesters hours after releasing a videotaped apology to Brown's family. In it, Jackson acknowledged Brown's body should have been removed from the street much sooner than the four hours it was there as police collected evidence.

He insisted officers meant no disrespect to the community or the family. "I'm truly sorry for the loss of your son," Jackson said.

Witnesses said Jackson agreed to join marchers Thursday but failed to tell officers monitoring his safety to stand down. They said that led to some officers forcing their way into the gathering, then pushing and shoving marchers. Several protesters were arrested.

"If (the officers) had just not come in, everything would be all right," protester Steven Wash, 26, of Ferguson, said Friday.

I hope he's ok. It's always a shame when someone innocent like that gets shot for no apparent reason.

I know a lot of people here are probably worried, but the officer is fine and will be ok.

He was shot in the arm after running after an (obviously dangerous) person who was running away. I hear he's in good spirits and will likely get a commendation for tonight's bravery.

You know, if this officer had simply shot this criminal in the back instead of trying to pursue him on foot, this tragedy wouldn't have happened.

Just sayin'. Dangerous job.

So tired of the black shot by white BS. Then you watch the news and the coed girl that is missing back east is white but her alleged rape/kidnapping /murder is done by a black guy and all you hear is crickets on the race.

How many polls have you voted in today? I'm sure you spend your free time finding places to vote because that is what is important. Could you start a thread informing the rest of us of the hot places to vote?

Today? Just the one for the city council's assistant deputy zoning planner. It went really well though, we voted really hard and I expect that whatever the outcome, it'll be for the best.

That vote should keep me satiated for a few days, at least. Next big vote isn't until wednesday, for the zoning planner's assistant.

Big changes coming down the line. Exciting times.

That can't be enough voting to keep your fix going. Don't act like you don't know about these, you junky.

Ya, but those polls don't mean anything. Voting in those polls is a complete waste of time as it accomplishes nothing except to make you feel like you're making a difference.

I only stick to real voting, thank you very much.

Given that media-run and media-manipulated polls are the typical means to access the FEDERALLY RESTRICTED BROADCAST CHANNELS, how are they not real voting too?

Another way to look at is, if a national candidate isn't already on cnn/fox, he/she isnt worth your time to begin with.

Voting is serious business, and if your candidate needs online polls in order to get on the news, I'm sorry, but that thats a scrub candidate. I do my best to only vote for winners, otherwise what's the point?

I don't get your trolling/sarcasm but in case you really are that stupid, please read this link:

There is no prize for picking the winner of an election. More so, the anonymous nature of our voting makes its unlikely the overlord you elect will thank you personally. By your "what's the point" standard, the only vote that matters is the winning one (or the one vote that prevents triggering a rigged recount) and only in elections decided by that one vote which is, statistically and for national elections, effectively zero.

Again, if you are trolling this thread like you do the cop threads, it is getting old and tiresome.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (KTVI) – An off-duty St. Louis city police officer was shot at early Sunday morning on Interstate 70. Around 12:20 a.m., the officer was on I-70 near I-170 when three black male suspects fired shots into his personal car.

The officer was hit by glass and suffered an injury to his arm. Police say the officer did not shoot back. The three suspects fled the scene in a black sedan.

The officer was taken to the hospital where he was treated for his injuries. Authorities are searching for the suspects.

The officer is 48 years old with nearly 20 years of service to the department.

Quite simply if the kops can't or won't live in the areas they patrol they are not serving the citizenry.

Bussing in armed thugs in order to control the unwashed has not, and never will, work out well for anyone.

I don't require anybody else I do business with to live in any specific area. I'm not sure I'd want my neighbors to be my cops as well. If they have unjustly held power, this goes double. Fuck, let's make them commute two hours each way. Or let's just get rid of coercive financing of protection.

I thought everything bxm042 posts is just sarcasm- am I missing something?

I want direct access to whomever is wielding guns with the power of arrest and imprisonment..

If a kop knows specifics about my family and I then I require the same information about him and his family.

Same holds true for DA's, judges and jailers...

I can agree with disbanding coercive financing for protection but in the meantime give me access to the oppressors.
