The FAQ is interesting:

What types of alerts will I receive?
 • Extreme weather warnings
 • Local emergencies requiring evacuation or immediate action
 • AMBER Alerts
 • Presidential Alerts during a national emergency
What if I don't want to receive WEA messages?
You can opt-out of receiving WEA messages for imminent threats and AMBER alerts, but not for Presidential messages. To opt out, please refer to instructions from your wireless carrier or visit http://www.ctia.org/wea for more information.

I don't have a phone or text messaging capabilities. The government should give me one so I can be alerted also.

If the President can text us, I think we should be able to text him on his personal phone as well.

Thank God!

Whatever would I do without "our government" helping me stay informed? [sarc]

let me guess no way to 100% opt out with your cell company other then throwing the phone over a cliff.

Just get a plan without text messaging. Problem solved.

Why should I have to sacrifice my freedom to communicate privately using available technology to avoid getting propaganda forced on my private property?

I can't even begin to imagine what a 'presidential' message would even say, but I imagine it would serve as a monumental propaganda machine. No president has ever been able to force his message to almost everyone in the country in one moment.

As for the inability to opt out of presidential alerts, that appears to be due to H.R.5785 -- Warning, Alert, and Response Network Act (1996):
SEC. 3. IMPLEMENTATION AND USE. (d) (2) (E)
CONSUMER CHOICE TECHNOLOGY- Any licensee electing to participate in the transmission of National Alert System alerts may offer subscribers the capability of preventing the subscriber's device from receiving alerts broadcast by the system other than an alert issued by the President.

I don't see anything wrong with keeping citizens informed about natural disasters in their area. What worries me is the people incharge are known to be liars..

Forgive me for being blunt, but what the fuck have you been smoking? Did you vote for Obama and are just not telling us?

Your solution is like telling someone to live on the street because they don't want to pay property taxes. We are supposed to be FREE of unwanted intrusions in our lives and all you can come up with is this shit - that we have to rearrange our lives around vermin with the guns and do without this thing or that just to be left at peace? Is that some sort of joke and I'm just missing the humor?

Seriously, this brand of thinking hints unavoidably at brain lesions.

I don't think it matters if your plan accepts texts or not, I think it matters if your phone can display them. I don't think you are being charged for these.
Dang skippy I better not get charged , I have been trying to figure out what agency I am going to bill for my charges , stamps , envelopes , paper for the invoice and my time , probably $100 ea ( I use really good paper )

Then , if they are foolish enough not to remit , should I file in small claims for a $100 , get my guaranteed judgement from my local judge against them , or is there a select Fed property I should file a lien against ? This is too much fricking work , it will be easier for myself and them , if they do not text me ...
