Thanks to the Department of Agriculture?! Really? Total cost to tax payers? We'll find out later when they bill us.

At this rate, they might as well invite the whole family over. (sarcasm)

San Elizario High School is now offering supper to its students.

After-school meals are now being served to high school students who are involved in after school activities, San Elizario Independent School District officials said. Supper is offered at 4 p.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m. at the high school's cafeteria.

The program, which began May 1, is funded through a reimbursement grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Child and Adult Care Food Program, said Raul Jacques, nutrition services director for the district. The cost for the program will not be known until this school year ends and district officials get an accounting of how much was spent on supper.

more blank checks.. the principle of our current government fiscal policy.

ughhh

How long until they are inspecting every home to make sure the food being served is up to their "standards"? And how long until they start issuing fines for not meeting those standards?

And how long before it's a crime to feed your family without the proper permits?

Something tells me that's expensive slop those kids are eating.

"This is really intended to recognize the needs of the students that have an active day," Jacques said. "We need to be responsive to their needs of an extended day because when you have lunch at noon, by this time they are hungry. So we want them to be able to perform well."

How on earth could anyone work out after eating that garbage?

Practices and games that happen immediately after school (which are most of them) don't usually end until around 5:30 or 6. It's kind of dumb to make them eat that stuff in between practice. And it's most likely processed junk. And what coach in their right mind is going to break in between practice to go eat anyhow?

What if we're in the middle of the 4th inning and suppers on? What do we do? Stop the game for a half hour so junior can go eat because "we want them to be able to perform well"? That's dumb. Besides, that menu isn't what you want your athletes eating. Pasta is probably ok if they mentioned that but that other junk will have them dragging after 20 minutes.

Not even mentioning the fact that it's federally funded.

Break-down the family unit even more. SMH. When I was growing up that was really the only time the family gathered around to communicate. They are trying to make the school, your home--breakfast, lunch and dinner.
