Like the bubonic plague, Facebook will eventually come to an end.

According to new research from Princeton, which compared the ”adoption and abandonment dynamics” of social networks by “drawing analogy to the dynamics that govern the spread of infectious disease,” Facebook is beginning to die out.

Specifically, the researchers concluded that “Facebook will undergo a rapid decline in the coming years, losing 80 percent of its peak user base between 2015 and 2017.”

Users will decide. If there seems to be no benefit and something better (or "cooler") comes along then they will jump ship.

As long as Facebook continues to innovate it will be fine!!

At some point will you get sick of it, despite what facebook does. At some point it becomes annoying that whatever you do anywhere is known everywhere, immediately, with pictures, including your mom, sons, distant relatives, and old high school classmates.

Who will they lose it to, Google Plus? I see them plateauing, and slightly declining, but 80% drop off in 3 years is not likely unless there is something much better out there that becomes popular fast. I don't like facebook, but even if they did lose 80 percent of their current members, they would still be a huge social network, hardly coming to an end.

No, most users are as dumb as shit, they stayed with Microsoft Windows despite its inferiority to a free OS Linux and Apple's OS X. Facebook has sheeple appeal now and it isn't going to lose its users anytime soon unless they do something really stupid.

I could see it. Most of those people will not just cancel their account but will stop posting their daily life details which will make a huge dent in traffic.

I agree.

I find FB quite useful- if used right it can be very helpful. It allows me to stay in touch with family and friends that are at long distances, as well as keep up with groups in my interests. I am never going to post my POV on gov, religious, or highly personal matters on FB.

The internet is an interesting place and probably everything, including this forum, is monitored.

Good.

100%? Even better.

It will only happen if people find a way to communicate without the need for Facebook. IE TALKING to each other in person.

I can't "TALK to each other in person" a 1000 miles away.

Don't like FB? Don't use it.

What I put in bold is all I talk about on Facebook. Right or wrong, I have lost my fear of "Big Brother" and don't plan on ever getting it back. I would rather be dead than to fear them.
