Johnson interview on 10/13/2000 said:
WOL: You've endorsed Gov. Bush for the presidency this year. Can you comment on his and Al Gore's general lack of interest in changing or discussing drug policy? And, given that you have said you will seek no further elective office, why not take a stand on principle on the drug issue and endorse either Ralph Nader or the Libertarians' Harry Browne, both of whom make drug policy reform major parts of their campaign?

Gov. Johnson: Believing that either Bush or Gore will win, I have to ask myself where do I have the most impact on this issue? I can have more of an impact working with Gov. Bush; after all, outside of drug policy we are pretty much in line. Do I not advance the issue further given that I would get a sympathetic ear at a Bush White House?
.

To be fair, Ron Paul has stated that his foreign policy was similar to Bush's at the time he was running.

Johnson didn't say a word about foreign policy. He did say that, as a Republican, he'd have someone more likely to listen to him in the White House with Republican Bush. Same as any Republican occupying a Governor's Mansion or a seat in Congress with Romney over Obama.

I was just pointing out that there is a difference between what Bush said campaigning and what he actually did. I can't remember what Bush campaigned on in 2000, but my guess is that it was not as bad as what he did in office.

After reading most of the interview,

I think I like Gary Johnson even more now.

George W. Bush wasn't as bad during his first campaign.

I would have voted for this Bush! Ron Paul did.

Dyed-in-the-wool Republican Party Faithful continued to support George W. Bush even after his incendiary BRING 'EM ON and his bullshit "Mission Accomplished" and years of STAYING THE PROFITEERING COURSE in Iraq...even after NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND...even after the Prescription Drug boondoggle...even after he tried to appoint fairy godmother HARRIET MYERS to the Supreme Court...and even after he TRIED TO OUTSOURCE AMERICAN PORTS TO THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES.

By contrast, Gary Johnson JUMPED THE CORRUPT GOP SHIP once it was (abundantly) clear that Party Bosses & Mainstream Media would defeat both Ron Paul & Gary Johnson BY NOT FIGHTING THEM.

If Gary Johnson, Ron or Rand Paul had ever supported or endorsed Al Gore, John Kerry, or Barack Obama... I would not and could not support them. As bad as Bush was, the modern day democrats are much, much worse.

Spoken like a dyed-in-the-wool Republican, STILL stuck in the utterly bogus and manipulative LEFT/RIGHT dichotomy.

"I hate your Representatives because they bring home the bacon; I love my Representatives because they bring home the bacon."

Yer skippin' kinda lightly over THIS, dontcha think?

Mitt Romney (endorsed by Rand Paul) is consulting with Dick Cheney...whaddya make of THAT? More strategery?

Yeah, George W. Bush campaigned for many things men like Johnson and Paul would like. It seemed as though he would be a good president. Then September 11th happened...

Pre-9/11 Bush was actually pretty good. How would we know he was a liar? Unless he was under some sorta mind control, NOT supporting him during his campaign would have looked very bad...

If Johnson endorsed him in 2004, then we have a real problem.

Thankfully for the Johnson boosters here, Johnson's governorship ended before that. Johnson was Governor of New Mexico from 1995 till 2003. He thus endorsed Bush in 2000, but no body bothered to ask him who he supported in 2004, and Johnson himself said nothing as a now private citizen.

Rand Paul, as a private citizen, did not support McCain in 2008. Now, as a U.S. Senator, he supports Romney. Does anyone here actually think Paul would have endorsed Romney if still an opthamologist?

Why, it's almost as if there is some sort of correlation between holding a major statewide-elected office and giving at least tepid support to your own party's presidential nominee.

"First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win."

Funny, I never expected the Ron Paul R3volution to be on the "evil" side of this quote.

When you're in the party, you endorse the rest of the party. That is one of the problems with the infiltration model. You end up becoming a pawn. Gary broke free, Ron never did, Rand never will.
