If you don't want to buy insurance, you will just have to pay a fine - think of it as a tax. Supreme Court upheld ACA for this reason.
Now, you can make a case that this a form of servitude, but fundamentally Obamacare is no different than Social Security, and I don't see Dr Carson or his Tea Party buddies railing against Social Security.
My own thoughts about this include:
There is no current method of taxation that exists to penalize an individual for failing to purchase an item that will provide profits to another individual or entity; moreover, levying such a tax is entirely outside of the federal governments powers to tax—it may only tax to pay its own debts (to be acquired in the subsequent course of the latter two), provide for the common defense or general welfare of the United States, in and of itself.
Additionally, being that the tax is to be collectively levied upon the individual recompense of the working class for failing to make a purchase, its form takes on that of a direct tax upon individuals, and thereby requires apportionment (clearly falling within the definition of either a personal or poll tax).
* The USSC has set much precedent that taxation may not be used merely as a punishment, to transfer wealth, to alter behaviors, and that its substance determines its form—i.e., labeling it as something else to avoid constitutional constraints when in fact it operates another way does not yield it an exception.
It used to be that the militia was required to maintain muskets, munitions, and additional items; however, such is an explicitly enumerated power of the federal government that is intended to remain interstate, while (industry invented) healthcare coverage is not whatsoever within this same realm, not by any reasoned degree.
For most all Americans participation in Social Security and the like is actually voluntarily, the ACA at present is not—you either pay for healthcare coverage or you are to be civilly fined by the IRS.
The ACA violates the V Amendment in its taking of other’s private property for public usage without just compensation—e.g., I have not been to see a doctor in close to 15-years now, while I pay out of pocket for almost all of my dental work (being that most dental plans conveniently do not pay for what it deems as “cosmetic work”, yet is anything but cosmetic in reality). Simply, those of us that take care of ourselves fairly well, attempt to eat healthy, and opt more for homeopathic treatments have no alternative left under the ACA.
The ACA is going to result in the utter corruption of the medical profession’s Hippocratic Oath; loss of confidentiality in medical care and treatment; and is going to result in a sort of immunization and vaccinations card for adults, wherein without an up to date card (and perhaps in the near future a mandated wireless chip implant) employers will be prevented by law from hiring you, will be required to report you to some federal agency, etc., and then yourself suddenly posing a danger or threat to the public safety your virtual exile from society will ensue, with a myriad of penalties, punishments, and incarcerations to guide you back into compliance.
At least with Social Security you can look forward to something actually tangible upon your retirement or disability, yet with the ACA you are left with nothing but drug addled wishful thinking that will ultimately lead you to certain disappointment, or worse rejection.
Do we not ever learn for our mistakes? What happens each and every year at Wal-Marts across the Nation on Black Friday? How about: crushed to death employees, trampled shoppers, endless lines, barren shelves, and very angry customers that are to be rewarded by their purchasing of cheap, imported crap. I ask you, is that how you want to manage your health coverage? Keeping in mind that at least when it comes to Wal-Mart (which I personally loath) they offer some semblance of a return policy.
The ACA was (for the most part) upheld by the USSC exactly for fear of exposing to the public their volunteerism in federal entitlement programs, such as Social Security.
