Is the only option for people that want to help out hurricane victims to pay their taxes? FEMA prevents donations to and has forced Katrina victims to give back money they've received.
I looked up the Death & Taxes poster for 2010 budget, and of the $1,421 billion for the budget, $7.325 billion was allocated for Federal Emergency Management Agency. Of that, $2 billion is towards disaster relief.
FEMA gets 0.5% of every tax dollar, but it has its own bureaucracy overheads and mismanagement. And looking at the disaster recovery allocation, just barely over 0.1% of every dollar I pay in taxes will be spent towards hurricane victims (while 63 cents of every dollar is spent on military)?
