President Donald J. Trump will endow the American Academy with the billions we will collect by taxing the large endowments of private universities plagued by antisemitism.

In recent weeks, Americans have been horrified to see students and faculty at Harvard and other once-respected universities expressing support for the savages and jihadists who attacked Israel. We spend more money on higher education than any other country, and yet they're turning our students into Communists and terrorists and sympathizers of many, many different dimensions — we can't let this happen. It’s time to offer something dramatically different.

Under the plan I’m announcing today, we will take the billions and billions of dollars that we will collect by taxing, fining, and suing excessively large private university endowments, and we will then use that money to endow a new institution called the American Academy.

Its mission will be to make a truly world-class education available to every American, free of charge, and do it without adding a single dime to the federal debt. This institution will gather an entire universe of the highest quality educational content, covering the full spectrum of human knowledge and skills, and make that material available to every American citizen online for free.

Whether you want lectures or an ancient history or an introduction to financial accounting, or training in a skilled trade, the goal will be to deliver it and get it done properly, using study groups, mentors, industry partnerships, and the latest breakthrough in computing. This will be a truly top-tier education option for the people.

It will be strictly non-political, and there will be no wokeness or jihadism allowed—none of that's going to be allowed.

Most importantly, the American Academy will compete directly with the existing and very costly four-year university system by granting students degree credentials that the U.S. government and all federal contractors will henceforth recognize. The Academy will award the full and complete equivalent of a bachelor's degree.

In addition to help the 40 million Americans who have some college education but no degree, the American Academy will grant credit for past coursework at legacy institutions and give you the chance to complete your education at the American Academy for free and much more quickly than is now possible or available.

This will be a revolution in higher education and will provide life-changing opportunities for tens of millions of our citizens.

Enjoy it, learn from it, and thank you.

acptulsa , do you see anything good about Trump's Community State Federal College?

Reminds me of the hare-brained campaign promises of Buzz Windrip in Sinclair Lewis' It Can't Happen Here.

He wants to completely federalize education. No wonder he refuses to eliminate the ED, but prefers to "overhaul" it.

"taxing the large endowments of private universities"

basically ensures zero chance of winning.

Donald Trump's Agenda47

Ending Biden’s Pharmaceutical Shortages

President Trump’s August 2020 Essential Medicines EO reflected critical lessons learned from the national response to the COVID19 pandemic, including the extreme national vulnerability caused by the lack of an adequate domestic manufacturing capability for critical pharmaceuticals.

This vulnerability was compounded by the severely UNDERFUNDED and DEPLETED Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) left by the Obama-Biden administration. As a result, between March 2020 and January 2021, President Trump invoked the Defense Production Act over 100 times to rapidly replenish the SNS with medicines and medical equipment to fight the pandemic.

As a part of this effort, large-scale and long-term Government Contracts were awarded to American manufacturers to produce life-saving essential medicines and medical equipment for public health emergencies. For example, Phlow Corporation in Richmond, Virginia, was awarded a $354 MILLION contract—with an additional $458 MILLION available for long-term stockpiling purposes—to manufacture over a dozen kinds of USA-made medicines and their precursor ingredients to treat patients hospitalized with the COVID19 virus.

[War on] Drugs

- Ask Congress to ensure that drug dealers and traffickers receive the death penalty.

- Forge new Public-Private Partnerships for companies willing to provide job opportunities and skills training to former addicts.

- Expand Federal support for faith-based counseling, treatment, and recovery programs.

- By October 2018, President Trump had secured $6 BILLION to fight the epidemic.

- The Trump administration awarded state and local communities a record $9 BILLION in Federal Grants to increase access to treatment and prevention services.

- President Trump provided a fivefold increase in funding to help communities prevent and treat addiction, issuing 8,000 grants to over 1,800 new state and local partners.

Education:

I will also work to ensure that every homeschool family is entitled to full access to the benefits available to non-homeschooled students—including participating in athletic programs, clubs, after school activities, educational trips, and more.

To every homeschool family, I will be your champion.

Do not vote Democrat. They are looking to destroy you if you don’t mind my saying that. Joe Biden can’t put two sentences together and yet he is looking to destroy you. Do not vote Democrat. Do not vote for Crooked Joe.

Plan to End Crime and Restore Law and Order

1. President Trump will sign a record investment in hiring, retention, and training for police officers. The bill will increase vital liability protections for America’s law enforcement officers.

2. President Trump will require local law enforcement agencies receiving DOJ grants to return to proven policing measures such as STOP-and-FRISK, strictly enforcing existing gun laws, cracking down on the open use of illegal drugs.

4. President Trump will instruct the Department of Justice to dismantle every gang, street crew, and drug network in America. President Trump has also called for the death penalty for drug dealers and traffickers.

5. President Trump has committed to deploying Federal assets, including the National Guard, to restore law and order when local law enforcement refuses to act.

6. President Trump will order the Education and Justice Departments to overhaul Federal standards on disciplining minors.

Trump Will Enact A National Tariff Policy

- President Trump’s universal baseline tariffs will create millions of new jobs, increase real household income, boost GDP, increase domestic manufacturing output, and generate hundreds of Billions of dollars in new government revenue.

Trump’s “American Academy” Is An Awful Idea

[snip]

GOP front-runner Donald Trump pledged to create a new government-operated online university. Taking a page from the Sanders-Biden “free college” playbook, Trump’s “American Academy” would issue free degrees while applying National Conservatism’s taste for big government and industrial policy to higher education. The scheme would be funded by a tax on the endowments of deep-pocketed private universities.

In calling for Uncle Sam to establish a free, degree-granting institution with public funds, Trump has adopted an Obamacare approach to tackling higher education.

All of this is why the American Academy might sound pretty good to those frustrated by the self-indulgence, bloat, rigidity, and ideological tilt of higher education. But it shouldn’t. The promising bits are swamped by the worrisome ones.

For those who recall Trump’s recurring promises to “drain the swamp,” the idea of putting federal bureaucrats and hangers-on in charge of the “American Academy” should seem like a bad joke. This is the same government that runs the IRS, got defrauded of hundreds of billions in pandemic relief, and that is mind-numbingly behind in updating air traffic control or the nation’s bridges. This is who we should trust to promote efficiency and convenience in higher education? And, in lieu of conservative efforts to ensure that students are sensibly protected from lousy outcomes but that both they and colleges have skin in the game, Trump is proposing a game-show host’s giveaway.

Then there’s the fact that Trump famously couldn’t control his own administration as president. His executive order protecting free inquiry on campus proved to be a nothingburger. In four years, he took no concrete steps to address the excesses of woke ideology in schools or on campus. The bureaucrats who ran roughshod over him last time would be the same ones now entrusted with creating, implementing, and running his brainchild.

And that, of course, ignores the surety that a future successor would bend Trump’s handiwork into a very different shape. Just as the Biden administration used Trump’s student loan repayment “pause” as an excuse to give away $200 billion in taxpayer funds, keeping it in place long after the pandemic ended, future administrations would be free to bend this new Academy to their own ends.

The biggest issue, though, is how the proposal distracts from more fruitful ones. Trump has called for overhauling college accreditation so as to create room for new providers, put a focus on performance, and challenge ideological orthodoxy. This is a serious way to promote healthy, cost-based competition in higher education. The idea of a big, “free,” government-funded, bureaucrat-managed provider is antithetical to that proposal.

If colleges are echo chambers for postmodern lunacy, a more targeted and effective response is to ensure that public funds no longer underwrite students and research at institutions that violate the core tenets of free inquiry. If Trump wants to ensure that wealthy institutions with bloated, tax-free endowments are contributing some modest amount in return for the fortune they collect in taxpayer subsidies, that’s fine. But there are far better ways to deploy those funds.

Graham Hillard, of the conservative James G. Martin Center for Academic Renewal, has it just right, predicting “that such a program would become a wasteful and unkillable money pit, competing with established schools poorly, attracting few students, and generating terrible outcomes.” Hillard says, “This proposal sounds like a boondoggle.” It sure does.

No doubt the Academy would teach that Trump did more for black people than any President since Abraham Lincoln. Hmmm, I seem to recall LBJ doing something pretty significant for black folks around 1964-65, but then who am I to dispute the Orange One?

Here's the thread Swordsmyth to make it easy for you.

"Under the plan I’m announcing today, we will take the billions and billions of dollars that we will collect by taxing, fining, and suing excessively large private university endowments, and we will then use that money to endow a new institution called the American Academy."

You can start at the top of the OP and work your way down.
