I suppose license plate data could be collected given the availability of it. but it depends on how that data was used. I don't think it can be used as evidence you were at the open carry protest. You could have loaned the car to a friend, been shopping across the street, having a picnic with the family in the park, etc... sure a "crime" was being committed in the park. but the vehicles were not involved. the cops should have approached the individuals in the protest. but we all know how that would have went.

Once you register your automobile it becomes a motor vehicle owned by the State, It is within the states rights and responsibility to keep up with its inventory. Hell its their duty. If you don't won't them running their plates on their motor vehicle don't give it to them by the act of registration.

Sort of. A car parked at an event where illegal activity takes place may be construed as reasonable suspicion. They have the right to record the plate info, plates are the property of the state. But the case would get tossed without eyewitness testimony of a crime or an admission of guilt.

Yes.

They are cops.

That means they can pretty much do whatever they want.
