Defund: USDA Wildlife Services

I was disappointed reading the Plan to Restore America that it didn't include defunding this extremely un-constitutional, wholly unneccessary, and very anti-freemarket subagency of the USDA: Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service: Wildlife Services.

This subagency, despite it's own charter documents declaring it is only supposed to provide consultation to landowners experiencing crop damage from wildlife predation, has been actively competing in against private trapping and nuisance wildlife management companies for years, including bidding against private firms using tax payer subsidized fuel, trucks, salaried government workers, and licensing exemptions on jobs such as cleaning bat guano out of commercial buildings, or clearing beaver blocking culverts.

I would appreciate it if someone close to the campaign would suggest a minor altercation in the plan to defund this subagency. I guarantee that every private trapper in the nation will become immediate Ron Paul supporters.

here is the facebook link to the movement to defund USDA Wildlife Services where you can see some of the stories of small businesses run out of business with illegal government competition.

I'm more disappointed in its projected collected revenue of $3 trillion dollars in year four, a base Pentagon budget on par with late era Bush levels, and the continuation of the DHS, personally.

I'll look into this, though. Thanks for the info

Aren't we all, and nitpickers to boot. Getting overly ballsy day one will scare off the credence and thus won't see the light evar.

Anyways, the OP has a good idea if the point was to scrap the entire USDA but just dealing with the wildlife services is a mere 7-13% of total 2011 budget ($146 Bil) depending on how one looks at it.

If you wanted to defund everything that's unconstitutional all in one blow, you'd have a massive surplus within one year.
I think even Paul understands that although the goal is to shrink government back to the Constitutional limit, you can't do it all in one fell swoop.

There comes a time when idealism should take a passengers seat to pragmatism. Say what you will about the drawbacks of Paul's 3-year balanced budget plan, but its easily the boldest plan anyone, including Rand Paul, has proposed.

This agency is a sub of DOA. I remember RP speaking before and he wanted to axe the DOA. First things first is the way I look at things. Once RP gets everyone thinking that we could do away with the federal departments and the world will not come to an end...then we end the DOA.

In the plan, RP does specify four subsections of USDA funding he intends to axe. Two of them deal with foreign aid, one is research, and the last is woman and child health. Now, we all agree foreign aid needs to go away. The other two however are more beneficial to people here than Wildlife services which was originally created to kill all the wolves, is not needed, and is directly detrimental to american small business.

We should keep saying to the most conservative people Ron Paul-plan isn't enough. But just after we told it's best we got in these elections.

I would be happy with a simple statement from a campaign rep saying that Wildlife services was too small to be included in the plan, but is in fact one of many unneccssary subagencies he intends to eliminate if elected to office.

This will get the pest control, nuisance wildlife, and trapping community solidly behind RP regardless of their foreign policy hangups. We have all lost valuable bird control bids to WS. I am a trusted member of the national community of PCOs WCOs and Trappers and can deliver the message, but it would be even better if they did a press release to Pest Control Technology, Pest Management Professional, and Trapper and Predator caller magazines.

Dr Paul's plan is a strategic strike to be just large enough to get attention without being shrugged off as insane (except by some far lefties) This will cause the other candidates to move towards Paul's stance. It is a win win for us. We need to push his plan to our friends and relatives. Be sure to point out how cutting spending worked after WW2, a plan that has already worked vs more stimulus which saddles our children and grand children with debt.

Baby steps, he is making significant cuts, its all going to take time and people need to be weened....

Again. Even if not included in the plan, a statement it on the facebook page I listed above that Wildlife services is on the chopping block with a Paul presidency would gain thousands of supporters, including one celebrity named Billy.

First the USDA wants to take our jobs from us. Now they want us to give them our pricing so they can compete against us more effectively!

This was sent to one of my colleagues.

Subject: Inquiry price for pest removals
Hello,
My name is Joni and I am inquiring about a range (high/low) or average cost for removals of the following pests (if you have them):
Raccoons, Geese, Coyotes, feral hogs

I appreciate any ranges you can give me. I work with USDA Animal Plant Health Inspections as a Management Analyst where I’m researching private pest costs. Thanks for your time.

On that last post, I'd like to spread it around facebook with that quote from some Soviet leader, but I can't find that quote about communism needing capitalism to be able to determine prices. Does anybody have that quote.

When all the world is socialist, Switzerland will have to remain capitalist, so that it can tell us the price of everything. -Nikita Khrushchev
