Simpson Announced Fund-Raising “Beyond Wildest Expectations”

(Longview, TX) On Monday, House member and Texas State Senate candidate David Simpson announced that his campaign had far exceeded the eight-day / $100,000 fund-raising goal it had set, garnering over $150,000 in contributions from over 120 donors in just over a week. This total does not include any candidate loans.

Simpson announced the accomplishment saying, “I am overwhelmed by the generosity and enthusiasm of so many supporters and the encouragement of the voters of Senate District 1. These resources and commitments to this campaign have allowed me to bring in new top caliber professional staff and service providers, open our first campaign office, expand our online presence and spread the message of liberty across North East Texas.”

Simpson added, “Our campaign has over 350 endorsements from party leaders, elected officials and activists in the senate district, close to 10,000 Facebook followers and nearly $10,000 a day in donations continuing to pour in. Our supporters know that Austin insiders will do everything they can to keep us from the Senate! From Carthage to Paris, Tyler to Texarkana, we’re putting their power back in the hands of the people, where it belongs.”

Representative Simpson just completed his third regular legislative session in the Texas House. He has consistently been ranked as one of the ten most conservative legislators during his tenure in the Texas House of Representatives.

I wonder if he's eyeing the governor's seat when Abbott is done.

I think he will likely run for statewide office at some point. But other people like Don Huffines may plan on running first. Simpson is probably not in any rush. State senate is his goal right now, if he pulls it off it will usher in a new era in bold Texas liberty campaigns. We shall see, I imagine he will run for Governor sometime in the next decade.

Assuming Texas does not become a purple state, if what you say is true, his only chance is in 2022. I don't think he will go against a sitting governor, especially since it will be Bush. By 2030, he will be nearly 70. I don't think he would want to be governor at that point. He might be done with politics after that. I could see Huffines doing it in 2022, but he's too social conservative.

Its too early to know any of that, things change. Governors step down, Simpson might prefer to be Lt. Gov or something anyway. He might stay in politics for a long time, or he might quit if he loses this time. I don't know. Someone is going to take on George P. Bush when he runs for higher office, and someday a Bush might lose an election. I think Huffines would be a great governor, but more to the point, I don't think Simpson and Huffines would ever run for the same seat so its kind of a moot issue.

Then again, who would have thought Hughes would run against Simpson? They are great friends, David donated to Hughes just last year.

In a state like Texas, I can't see a governor stepping down unless they have a seat in the executive branch
