Simpson's proposed pot bill stirs debate




East Texans packed three separate venues Saturday to discuss a hot button legislative item recently introduced by state Rep. David Simpson — decriminalization of marijuana.




The Longview Republican had meetings in Gilmer and Longview to discuss the 19 bills he's introduced during this 84th legislative session, but most only wanted to discuss one of those: Simpson's proposed pot bill.


"People who have open minds about this subject have long been persecuted," Lee Cargill said during a meeting at the Judson Community Center in Longview.
