Max Boot: Dangerous, Illogical, Lunatics Are Mainstream of GOP

Washington Post columnist Max Boot said Tuesday on MSNBC’s “Deadline” that he believes people who are crazy and dangerous are the mainstream of the Republican Party.

Boot said, “There’s always been a lunatic fringe in the Republican Party, but it used to be truly the fringe, folks like The John Birch Society in the 1960s. This is the same mindset with the Marjorie Taylor Greenes and the Louie Gohmerts and all the rest. They are almost literally out of their minds. The stuff they believe is illogical, dangerous, it’s crazy. These people are not the fringe anymore. The fringe in the Republican Party is people like Liz Cheney or Adam Kinzinger, saying we need to uphold the Constitution and respect the sanctity of elections and defend our democracy. That’s the outlying view in the Republican Party today. ”

He added, “The mainstream is the people who say that the election was stolen from Donald Trump. That is in fact, a litmus test for being a Republican in good standing. You see the way that David Perdue is humiliating himself in the Georgia gubernatorial race by putting the big lie front and center. This is a formerly establishment Republican. This is what they’re doing because they think that’s what they need to do to connect with the Republican base and to avoid the wrath of the orange man, who still remains the dominant figure within the Republican Party. This is a very dangerous situation for American democracy because as we all know, Joe Biden’s opinion ratings are very low right now. It’s very possible to imagine that not only do Republicans win the midterms in the fall, but Donald Trump could easily be elected president in 2024, and you know, despite all the revelations about his attempts to overthrow our democracy, if he wins again, he’ll get another chance.”

Now, I realize that the Marxist left is now so unhinged and disconnected from reality and themselves to be nonsensical and paid no mind to, but I did want to point this out.

Here's a link to a series of brochures that were passed out to people at JBS meetings where people gathered to watch filmstrips. These pamphlets were designed to accompany the filmstrip presentations.

https://archive.org/details/JBS-Film-Strip-Brochures/1969-JBS-Great-Pretense/

They cover a similar period of American history in which we are living right now, when Marxists gained a real foothold of power, from 1966 to about 1970.

The point is, that pretty much every single thing JBS was hollering and warning people about, in an admittedly non-delicate way, in the 1960's, has come to pass.

From the disaster that is public "school" to the collapse of US fiat currency, to the history of western governments funding Bolshevik revolutions and more.

About the only thing they got significantly wrong was the failure to identify China as the up and coming Communist threat, that they would make much better Marxists than the Russians ever would.

See how the frauds like Max Boot want democracy so much? It's their scam.

Pretty sure it's the Marxist left thats dangerous, illogical, and a bunch of lunatics by an infinite amount of miles.

Boot is trying to have it both ways. He is trying to dismiss those he disagrees with as "fringe" while simultaneously complaining about how they are becoming "mainstream" (at least sufficiently so as to sway or determine the outcomes of elections in their favor). But it can't be both. Even if one agrees that they are "dangerous" (and/or "illogical" and/or "lunatics" and/or whatever), they are certainly not "fringe". Not anymore. And of course, hacks like Boot can't be bothered to wonder why that is the case, or to examine their own roles in fostering this state of affairs. They are oblivious to the fact that their own long history of self-serving obfuscations and prevarications are ultimately responsible for provoking the very reaction they are squawking about.

This is another excellent example of what I mean when I say the corporate press is utterly lacking in self-awareness. They still take themselves for granted as the standard of normalcy and the measure of "sanity", even though the days when they were the gate-keeping curators of what is or is not "acceptable" opinion or discourse have come to an end. The Internet in general, and "social media" in particular, have destroyed the effective monopoly once enjoyed by the institutions of corporate media.[1]

The advent of the Internet, and especially of "social media", has thrown wrenches galore into the gears of the machines in the factories where consent was once manufactured - and they simply don't know what to do about it (except to double down on the very things that caused those wrenches to be thrown in the first place). All they can do is wail and whinge about how their special brand of Thorazine has lost its effectiveness, with the result that the "lunatics" are now taking over the asylum - or at least wandering the grounds freely and at will.

[1] For example, in its heyday, the John Birch Society could only have dreamed of achieving the degree of reach, engagement, and impact that mere individuals are able to achieve today (and with orders of magnitude less effort and expense than JBS had to expend). For just one quite recent illustration of this, consider the fact that one woman - a real-estate agent with Instagram and Twitter accounts going under the moniker "Libs of Tik Tok" - has been able to outrage the counsels of those who previously would not have given JBS the time of day. (Or consider the very forum to which I am posting this, which exists despite the fact that its namesake was systematically "blacked out" and studiously ignored by traditional institutional media. "Social media" was still nascent at the time, but the "Ron Paul Revolution" and its attendant phenomena - such as "moneybombs" and Ron Paul Forums and the like - were harbingers of things to come.)
