QUESTION: I would like to know what group, who was and/or responsible for getting Cookeville in the ICLEI (International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives) group of control?
ANSWER: “In 2009 the City was approached by a group of local concerned citizens to participate in a green house gas emissions inventory and was provided the ICLEI organization as a source for the software that could be provided to conduct the inventory,” Cookeville City Manager Jim Shipley explained. “It was a project to be completed by TTU Honors students that year. The City agreed to partner to complete the project, membership was purchased and software was obtained and installed on TTU computers for the project to begin,” he continued.
“The project did not come to fruition. The City did not adopt or adhere to any guidelines promoted or suggested by ICLEI. The City has not renewed the membership with ICLEI, and is currently not an active member.”
