A new ceasefire in Syria took effect this week. Syria and Russia agreed to not bomb US-backed "moderates" and the US agreed to separate its rebels from al-Qaeda. Will this bring about a political solution to the horrors of the five year war? Or are the underlying issues still being ignored?

UN Security Council meeting on cease-fire cancelled because Washington refuses to share the deal. Why does Washington insist on concealing the deal? What do they want to hide?
http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/russia-meeting-cancelled-us-objections-42152781

"A scheduled Security Council meeting was canceled because the U.S. does not want to make public details of the Syrian cease-fire deal … there was no point in briefing the council if the U.S. did not want to say exactly what was in the documents outlining the deal hammered out last week … "This briefing is not going to happen and most likely we're not going to have a resolution of the Security Council because the United States does not want to share those documents with the members of the Security Council," ….

In Washington, a U.S. official said the session was canceled because the Russians were trying to force the U.S. to make the cease-fire deal public. …"

Can New Syria Ceasefire Hold?

Not if Washington can help it. Washington is doing everything it can to sabotage the ceasefire.

Washington:

  1. cancelled the UN Security Council meeting regarding the cease-fire deal because Washington refuses to share the cease-fire deal with the UN Security council
  2. refuses to publish the details of the agreement with Russia about the ceasefire in Syria
  3. has done nothing over the last days to separate, as promised, the "moderate rebels" it supports in Syria from al-Qaeda
  4. today bombed a Syrian army position in support of an ISIS attack in Deir Ezzor:
    • "Today at 17:00-17:50 Moscow time, international anti-Daesh coalition (two F-16 and two A-10 jets) carried out four strikes on Syrian government forces' units encircled by Daesh near Deir ez-Zor airport. The coalition's aircraft entered Syrian airspace from the side of the Iraqi border," … As a result of the attack, 62 Syrian soldiers were killed and some 100 others were injured … Daesh terrorists launched an offensive soon after the US-led coalition aircraft attacked the Syrian government forces. The U.S. planes came from Erbil in Iraq. The U.S. air attack on Deir Ezzor was certainly not a mistake but well planned. The Syrian troops were holding positions on Jabal Tharda, a mountain that overlooks Deir Ezzor's airport. The mountain is now fully under Islamic State control. With this IS has fire control over the airport and the Deir Ezzor garrison as well as more than 150,000 …
  5. simultaneously with the Washington attack the Israeli air force attacked Syrian positions in the Golan height after al-Qaeda lobbed a mortar towards Israeli forces ... This has become the official pretext of Israeli support for al-Qaeda in the area with Israel claiming that the Syrian army is responsible for any and all attacks no matter who initiates them.
  6. also earlier today artillery fire from Turkey hit Syrian army positions in Latakia.

A little insight from Stephen Lendman on Washington's Charade:
https://www.freedomsphoenix.com/Article/203889-2016-09-17-ceasefire-charade-in-syria.htm
US-supported terrorist attacks more intense than before ceasefire began last Monday. … War rages in Syria. No ceasefire exists, nor will it ahead because Washington wants war, not peace, Assad eliminated, Syrian sovereignty destroyed, pro-Western puppet governance replacing it, America gaining another imperial trophy.

How long will the charade go on? … America again deceived them … deals America agrees to aren't worth the paper they're written on - breached every time, …

Syria is the only party observing Geneva ceasefire terms. America did nothing to constrain the so-called "moderate opposition" - comprised of terrorists as vicious as ISIS and al Nusra. … no moderate rebels exist. All anti-government forces are US-supported terrorists, cutthroat killers used as imperial foot soldiers. … Dozens of ceasefire breaches continue occurring daily - with full US support and encouragement. Washington wants conflict continued … escalated if Hillary succeeds …

Russia wants Geneva terms disclosed to other Security Council members … Washington wants secrecy … What's being hidden? … [Washington] “is not prepared to share the documents with the members of the Security Council, and not even describe them in detail." …

"(W)hy make a secret of them? Those are things on which we are going to base our work if the whole thing is implemented. … we cannot ask members of the SC to support something the content of which they don't know." … Washington's opposition to transparency is another example of its real objectives … [publish] the ceasefire terms … so "the whole world will learn about obligations … and will be able to give unbiased assessments to how each side fulfills the agreements” ….

Washington wants no constraint on its support for terrorist groups … Sunshine is the best disinfectant. Full disclosure … obstructs its ability to violate them. …
