I drove into my precinct and saw a mass of volunteers for various candidates along the sidewalk to the door of the building.

To my dismay, there were 4 people decked out in Cassis gear with a bunch of signs staked around them. They were handing out red wristbands with Cassis's name on them. They went to hand me one and I took it with an emphatic "thanks!", took 5 steps and ripped it in half and threw it in the trash.

I guess I could have refused it and said I was voting for Kerry, but I figure that's one red wristband that they have to pass out to someone who's on the fence. There weren't many people voting, I was #158.

There weren't any Bentivolio people standing there unfortunately. I'm getting kind of nervous that we might actually lose this. It would be a shame.

Oh and I made sure to drive real slowly past all of the Cassis volunteers when I left so they could see my Ron Paul 2012 bumper sticker. :D

ARe they allowed to have those bracelets close to the polls? I thought there was a code forbidding it.

From my understanding they can pass them out, but the wristbands cannot be visible once the voter is inside the polling place. The workers there were actually really good on this, they made the lady ahead of me take it off her wrist and put it in her pocket until after she left the voting booth.
 
I have a hard time believing someone completely undecided is going to write-in someone who hands them a bracelet vs. the only one on the ballot. I'm certainly no expert, but I sure hope I'm right.

hopefully the ones with the most turn out are like that.

Fingers crossed.

what pisses me off about this is that if people don't CARE who they vote for in a race, being given a bracelet in itself might tip the scale.

What city did you vote in and what time?

No Cassis presence at the Troy district I was outside for a couple hours. One of the establishment Republican Party guys there told me he voted Kerry in part because of Cassis' negative ads. It's going to be interesting. Bout to vote right now!

I think I remember reading there were 300 voting places in all.. anyone else hear of any figures?


I hope we win this! Everytime I voted at my Northville precinct there would always be poll workers hanging around, but everybody would just take their stuff so they could be on their way... Yes I worked the polls before for RP and people aren't the most reseptive, most are going in on the defensive when they see a poll worker waving or trying to stop them. Sure people may take the bracelets in order to keep moving by these people.
