While everyone was transfixed by the 2020 presidential election, one of the biggest victories against woke activism took place in California on November 3, 2020.

Viewed as one of the bastions of the progressive left, California saw its voters thoroughly strike down affirmative action ballot initiative Proposition 16. After voters rejected Prop. 16 by a 57 to 43 percent margin, leftist observers were left scratching their heads at how California, a state that is 36.5 percent non-Hispanic white, would reject an initiative that purportedly combats racial injustice.

Prop. 16 would have repealed California’s affirmative action ban. Proposition 209, the affirmative action prohibition, was passed by voters in 1996. Prop. 209 put an end to the discrimination against or the bestowing of preferential treatment on individuals based on their ethnicity, national origin, race, or sex in public education, public sector work, or state contract work.

And so was the Political Right

Give credit to Asians

... and to Hispanics

Such broad categorizations though. Asian is everything from Hawaii to Afghanistan. Hispanic? Everything from Brooklyn to Argentina. ;)

But to be more specific, Vietnamese that fled Vietnam are very conservative, more so than the old Cuban exiles. People from Hong Kong or Taiwan can be conservative, and usually anti-comunist.

Chinese is very much a mixed bag. There are Chinese that have been in California for many generations, all the way back to the gold rush and building of the railroads. They are a mix of political perspectives, like any American. Recent Chinese immigrants on the other hand is where you may get CCP spies, and people who still believe in a one party socialist system.

Likewise, people from India (considered Asian) are mixed. There are many different sub groupings of people from India. Sikhs tend to be conservative. But the Indian history of socialism/communism and caste system often comes with recent immigrants. This is why so many of the radical left squad type politicians are recent Indian immigrants.

And more to the point of the vote in the OP, Asians in California know darn well that the bill was aimed directly at them. The left thinks there are too many Asians in the Universities, and want to use discriminatory affirmation action to “level the field”, i.e. replace Asian students with black and Hispanic students.

This can, and probably will be, spun as racism towards people of color. It's always interesting when the left gets confused.
Wasn't there a story that was buried a while back about blacks being bullied by Asians in school? Doesn't quite fit the narrative that only whites can be hateful.

Don’t let that secret out. Reality is completely different from leftist propaganda.

Yes, Asians can be very, uh, cliquish? Chinese, when in the majority, can discriminate against any other groups, including white Americans. Indians of course come from a caste system, and black and hispanic people can be discriminated against by Indians as being lower on the caste hierarchy. Thus many black and Hispanic Americans do not favor immigration from any part of Asia. And many do not favor immigration from anywhere, including south of the border. This fact alone resulted in a lot of black and Hispanic support for Trump.

Doesn't matter. At need, Asians are deemed by the woke to be "white adjacent."

(When they find that their narrative doesn't fit reality - which is quite often - they simply adjust "reality" to fit their narrative.)
